Overwriting existing appointments/contacts
Hello all. I've recently recovered from a HDD crash. Fortunately, just prior to the crash, my PPC backed up so all my contacts and calendar appointments are "safe."
I reinstalled everything (I'm still using AS 3.8 because all I hear are problems for newer versions and Outlook 2003) and reimported my backed up personal folders. However, when this happened, it also copied the (approximately) 4 month, out of date, calendar appointments and contact lists. What I want to do is to overwrite EVERYTHING on my computer with the data on my PPC. However, when I go to sync, it comes up with 3 options and I'm not sure which to choose... Combine the items on my device with the items on this computer. Replace the items on my device with the items on this computer. Do not synchronize this information at this time. Well, option 2 and 3 aren't what I need at all but number 1 isn't that great either. I want my PDA to be primary and to overwrite all the appointments/contacts that are currently loaded into my desktop. I found the Rules section in the Tools > Options that "If there is a conflict, Desktop > Always replace the item on this computer." But it doesn't seem to do anything. Help!

Spaz,
Here is what I did when I thad the same issue between wrok and home. Make sure you have your preferences set regarding the rules for conflicts. If you have everything on ppc and you want it on the pc then I deleted all my contacts and appointments from the pc and then sync and it was done.

I fear that the only way that you can do what you want is to delete the Outlook database on your pc
![]() Quite rightly, Microsoft view the PC as the main device in the partnership: the Axim is not a pc replacement so it will never clear all of the appointments and contacts on the host machine (only the other way round). Unless someone has a better solution, the only thing that I can suggest is a clean install of Outlook (including the database) and then resync. Backup to a card or your hdd first if you try this and I would also recommend creating a restore point and a full-backup of your data.

there is a tool for ppc called WebIS Toolbox that will delete dup (better than sktools).
once you delete the dups, just resync. The main pc will detect the change and remove them from you pc outlook (at least most of them). ![]()
