Activesync 4.2 installation error

I get an error when I attaempt to install AS 4.2 on a win 2k box.

"Setup Not Complete"
"The wizard was interupted before Microsoft Activesync 4.2 could be installed"
"Your system has not been modified"
"To complete installation at another time, please run setup again"
"Click finish to exit the wizard"

I am using the 6.9 meg setup file downloaded from the MS site.

This error occurs everytime I try to install.

ANy ideas are appreciated.
Thanks

Ok, the usual suspects:
  • Make sure that the cradle is not connected before you have installed the software
  • The firewall and AV programs are disabled (disconnect from the Internet first)
  • All running programs and applications are closed
  • You have sufficient memory for AS
  • Any previous version has been properly removed
  • Screen saver is temporarily disabled

Ok, I did almost everything you mentioned.
I get an error when trying to uninstall the older 4.2 AS that was on this machine before.
How can I manually remove it completely.
Thanks for your reply.

I had the same error you describe here and spent about 3 hours on the phone first with Dell then with MS. MS was finally able to resolve this for me.

<windows>\system32\mapi32.dll was incorrect on my machine. The file size of the incorrect mapi32.dll was 60.3kb (May 23-2005). I was able to copy the correct version from another windows XP-home computer . The filesize of the working file is 109kb (Aug 04-2005).
