AOL doesn't support POP3....they only support IMAP. That being said, you can set up IMAP in Outlook and sync that to the PPC.
BUT, if you're only interested in reading the mail on the PPC then just set up the IMAP account for AOL directly on the PPC and read it there. No need to go through Outlook, and the next time you check mail using AOL's web interface the stuff you did on the PPC will be reflected there.

I've used the IMAP connection on my PPC a lot and it works just fine. If you're tight on memory, you can check your email using IMAP and then remove everything to free up memory (except the account set up information). Next time you connect with the PPC, the mail program will download the folders and mail again.
