This is Post #1 for me. Just got my Axim x51 (AO5) a few weeks ago, and I've been syncing to 2 different computers using ActiveSync 4.5 and syncing to Outlook 2003 (on both computers) with no issues. Had an X5 before that and was very happy.
For some reason, ActiveSync cannot establish a connection on my home computer with the Ax today (worked fine last night). When I connect the USB cable, it gives the failed-to-establish-connection-with-device error and then offers to run the troubleshooter. Troubleshooter finds "1 known issue" w/ no offered solution. I've tried closing McAfee and disabling the Windows Firewall even though it worked before with both of these running. The only changes that I've made to the Ax since it worked last are: (1) I configured it to connect to my WAP and did a little experimentation surfing, (2) I played with BT for a few minutes (basically got it to recognize my Motorola MOTOKRZR K1m and that was it), and (3) I uninstalled PocketWeather (from the Ax) because it was no longer updating. I thought I installed the older beta of PocketWeather that wasn't the trial version, but I guess not. As far as I know, I didn't change anything else....so I'm kinda confused as to why the Ax will no longer connect to my PC. Hopefully there is an easy solution to this..... ActiveSync is awesome when it works, but it is infinitely aggravating when it doesn't..... Thanks in advance for your advice. | |||

Nevermind....problem solved. I realized that last night I had enabled internet connection sharing under Network Connections --> Local Area Connection --> Properties --> Advanced on my PC. Not sure why that interfered with ActiveSync, but apparently that was the problem.

Glad that you figured it out and welcome to the site. Also, a soft reset can be a very helpful step to try when the Axim isn't performing like it should. Enjoy your device.
