Accessing PocketPC files from Windows XP
I wonder if there is a way to mount pocket pc file system as a normal drive or folder in Win XP when Pocket PC is connected with ActiveSync. Right now it shows up under "My Computer" in windows explorer, but explorer doesn't show a path that I can use in other applications.
What I would like to do is mount Pocket PC file system as a drive or a folder, so I can use MS SyncToy for file synchronization between PC and PocketPC (I'm using MobSync at the moment, but it has a problem with overwriting files that were modified on both sides since previous sync) Window XP mountvol tool showed a few unmounted volumes on my PC, ie: >>mountvol Possible values for VolumeName along with current mount points are: \\?\Volume{6001a6dc-2c45-11da-a590-806d6172696f}\ C:\ \\?\Volume{0ffa412b-f986-11da-801f-00059a3c7800}\ D:\ \\?\Volume{9d4bdf14-27dd-11db-8062-0010c6962890}\ P:\ \\?\Volume{54af5b64-e1ff-11db-80a3-0014a42f3e32}\ The system cannot find the file specified. \\?\Volume{ef2129cd-eccf-11db-80a8-0010c6962890}\ The system cannot find the file specified. \\?\Volume{23e43073-eeaf-11db-80ad-0010c6962890}\ The system cannot find the file specified. \\?\Volume{44106726-db01-11db-80a2-0014a42f3e32}\ The system cannot find the file specified. I tried to mounting unmounted volumes (assuming that one of them was PPC/ActiveSync), but would always get an error "The parameter is incorrect.". Is there a third party utility what would allow file and folder sharing between PC and Pocket PC? Did anybody try using PocketPC ftp servers for that? - I wonder if they'd work over ActiveSync connection. Thanks Ross

If you enable file synchronization under activesync, it will create a sub-folder in your My Documents folder where everything in the My Documents folder on you axim will be synced to the PC... you can do whatever you want from there w/ synctoy.
Does that help? | |||||||||

You might want to explain your problem in words of one Syllable or less or at least in a more layman terminology.
AS can sync documents on an SD or a Cf card as Forge said. I guess most of us (well me anyway) don't understand what you want.

Maybe Card Export II would work for you?

After you connect your PDA and open Windows File Explorer under My Computer you will see a folder named Mobile Device. You can browse that folder and copy/move/delete files and folders located on the PDA, just like browsing a removable USB drive. However PDA does not get assigned a drive letter like C:\ D:\ etc., so other applications can not access pda files. I want to assign a drive letter to PDA drive to be able to use any file sync software. You can change/edit/add/delete assignements of drives to drive letters with a command line tool mountvol. Just open up a command line prompt on your PC and type mountvol and you will see what I'm taking about; however there is something preventing mountvol from mounting PDA as a drive, so I'm trying to figure out if there is a way around it. Hope it makes more sence, sorry it's so long. Cheers

I have a question , does that mean I can connect Ax to PC and see SD or CF as added drives to PC? and explore direct from my computer, rather than going computer/my device/ CF SD card. Does it take out the my device

Same word. Yes.
And it means you can connect to any computer with a usb port without having to install AS. You can switch between AS and Card export with one click.

Breley, Box, thanks for pointing out Card Export. It does have some limitations, as it disables ActiveSync synchronization and also does not work over bluetooth (I use it at work). Asides from those points it's a great app.
