Hiding personal items in Outlook

Is there a way to filter out items I categorize as "Personal" from Outlook 2003? Setting ActiveSync to filter prevents unchecked categories from being sent to the pda. I'd like this to be the other way around, as I enter items on my handheld I do not want to show up on my work laptop's Outlook.

You can specify categories, so make your private appointments one category and select all the others.

I've done that, but the problem is Outlook shows the items and ActiveSync doesn't port them to the handheld. I need this to be the other way around, where I show the item on the handheld, but it doesn't show in Outlook.

Sorry, I mis-understood your post. I'm not sure how to do this.
