ActiveSync Toggle
There is a great little freeware app that has successfully tempered some of my hatred for ActiveSync. It allows me to turn ActiveSync on and off (removing from and replacing it in memory) at will on my PC. I can now put my Ipaq in the cradle to charge without having to unplug my USB cable to avoid fighting ActiveSync. Also solves another annoyance, I use dialup and everytime I disconnect from the internet, ActiveSync immediately tries to connect again. Also, everytime I put my Ipaq in the cradle to charge, ActiveSync initiates a dialup connection. This little app give me control over ActiveSync, instead of the other way around. It's called ActiveSync Toggle.

I have looked at this before and I am going to give it a try. I seen no use for it before but now it could be useful.

My Handspring Visor Edge miraculously resurrected itself. So I am going to build it up with apps and let my daughter play with it. It also uses a USB cradle so being able to toggle AS so that I can use hotsync is now important.

I currently use both ActiveSync and Hotsync simultaneously on my PC without any conflicts. In addition to my Ipaq, I also have a Sony Clie. I've even initiated a Hotsync with the Clie at the same time data was being transfered to the Ipaq via ActiveSync, without any problems.

Nice, I figured that Hotsync and AS running together would cause problems.

my cpu locked up when I tried to hotsync and activesync at the same time. I have the palm T3 which syncs directly with outlook and not palm desktop so I thinks that's why it locked up...

You're probably right about what caused the lockup. I sync my Sony with Palm Desktop and my Ipaq with Outlook. I can see where it would be a problem if both apps are trying to access Outlook at once.

PS: Another nice thing about ActiveSync Toggle is it also keeps ActiveSync from loading on boot up. I put a shortcut to ActiveSync Toggle in my Quick start tray on the left of my taskbar, where it's convenient to load ActiveSync whenever I'm ready.
