ActiveSync 3.7.1 Cannot create partnership on second PC

Having Just purchased an Ipaq 1945:

I have successfully created a partnership and synchonized my desktop PC (Windows XP Pro - External USB Hub - Ipaq 1945 with sync cable).

I tried to set up Activesync 3.7.1 on my Laptop PCCompaq Evo N600c, Windows XP Professional with all windows updates), but upon connecting the Ipaq via USB cable (as per Activesync wizard instructions), the ActiveSync wizard minimized and just kept saying "connecting".

I have tried:
1> Uninstalling Activesync, rebooting and re-installing Activesync.
2> Performing a soft reset on my ipaq
3> Performing a hard reset (new ipaq, so I had minimal data)
4> Disabling Norton Antivirus (I can't uninstall as it's a company PC)
5> Connecting via IR (enabled on IPAQ ActiveSync & Laptop ActiveSync)

Any ideas would be very much appreciated - I am at my wits end!!!

You are using the same sync cable on the laptop?

Hi Chris

Yes, I have tried using the same USB cable on my laptop that I successfully synced with my desktop.

There's been a new development. When I try to connect via IR on my laptop, the Ipaq says User Authenticated, then it looks like it's about to sync (I get the progress bar, but it doesn't move), then the ipaq says disconnected. Nothing gets synced.

I'm sure the IR port on my laptop works as I've successfully IR'd files from my laptop to my Ipaq.

Me too

I'm having the same problem with Guest. I've tried everything mentioned and still the blighter won't allow a new partnership. I've given write access to the folders; reset hard and soft; reinstalled AS many times (including restarting the computer); turned off the firewall; etc..
The maddening thing for me is when I reinstall the software and then plug in the iPaq as requested, it immediately sets up as Guest and gives no further options nor tells me anything about what has just happened!
As a Palm OS user too, this software is just screwy!
I've looked at Chris De Herrera's site but it's too scary for me - no likee regedit!

pretty much the same problem here...

ipaq 4150 set up great at home, no problems.
Work PC full of problems, connecting and green icon spinning then the connections dialogue box, then it disconnects. this goes on sporadically.
Funny thing is that i did get it to sync once!

I have checked the cable out at home works fine, no lose connection etc. Ive carried out ppc soft reset and PC reboots galore. Uninstall and reinstall of activesync didnt resolve anything either.

It seems to find the ipaq then loses the connection. very frustrating.

Any ideas out there?

If you have uninstalled AS try to make sure that your PPC profile on the desktop is also removed. Sometimes this folder can linger around. Goto C:\Documents and Settings\your user name\Application Data\Microsoft\Activesync\Profiles. If a folder still exists that has the name of your PPC then remove it. Then reinstall AS (the latest version) and try to resync.

What OS are you running? When you uninstall I would also recommend also looking on your PC to see if the profile folder for your PPC is still hanging around as I have mentioned it in this thread.

I am having the same issue. I have 3 ipaq's h1935. They all work on my laptop and another computer in my office. When I try to use them on the admin computer (the machine they will be synced with permanantly) it doesn't seem to work. The machine detects the hp sync driver and adds that hardware, but never detects the device. The icon turns green and activesync says it is connecting, but the dialog box that asks for a guest or standard partnership never pops up. One time it connected, but disconnected within 10 seconds. I have the latest version of activesync installed on the desktop, and I have tried to reinstall several times with no luck. I know its not an issue with the Pocket PC cause it works on other computers. I am running Windows 2000. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance
