Connection Error on Windows Startup
I get the following message on Windows startup if my iPAQ is not connected seated in its USB cradle:
Connection Error Microsoft ActiveSync cannot open the COM port. To try setting up the connection again, click OK and follow the on-screen instructions. On pressing OK I get the customary "Get Connected" wizard screen. Alternatively, if I plug in my iPAQ into the cradle all is fine once again. Is this supposed to happen? Is there any setting to stop this from happening at startup? At best it's annoying and it seems to suggest that the iPAQ has to be plugged into my PC at startup? Managed to resolve this issue with a little experimentation.
I just remembered that I had disabled all my COM ports in the BIOS since I never use them. I figured that even though I was using the USB cradle ActiveSync was still attempting to find a COM port. This is when I realised that it might be worth going into File|Connection Settings... and unchecking Allow Serial Cable or Infrared connection to this COM port. Hey presto!!! No more pop-up messages at Windows start-up. | ||||
