Sync'ing large (~100mb+) files - doesn't work..

I've tried to upload a few large video files to the CF card on my 3835, but it never works. The progress indicator will get about a sixth of the way across, freeze, then dissappear, and start over.

This happened with a couple different files.

Is it best to just get a CF/SD USB reader/writer and use that? I think I'm going to try that but wanted to see if there might be a trick or something.

Thanks

No tricks I fear...except to put files of that size on a card using a card reader.

Trying to transfer a file that large via ActiveSync is a good way to get a chance to experiment with the iPaq's valuable "restore from backup" features following at least one Hard Reset.

They are a good investment. 8 in 1 readers are very cheap these days and fast as blazes.

Good luck.

To add to what RobertS is saying Activesync via USB is very slow. It would seem like there would be no difference between the USB cradle and a USB card reader. Guess what, there is and a huge one it is. The culprit for slowing things down via the cradle is the activesync software. It is much quicker to transfer large files via a card reader.

yeah, I figured that the whole bottleneck was the AS software, and the fact that it goes through the IPAQ before getting to yoru card.

And yeah, I found an 8 in 1 R/W on ebay for like $15 shipped. Good deal.

kianwee,

I am surprised it transfered at all. When I try and transfer really large files via sync to my iPaq or my Palm my PC seems to lose track of what it is doing in the middle and freezes up...sort of like me, actually.

RobertS

I never encounter any lockup or freezes whenever I transfer files.... it just took me a long long long long long time to do so..... So, a memory card reader is a must for me!
