Syncing over internet
I got the shiny new 6315 and the unlimited data plan, in addition to managing a large number of networks that mostly have wifi, I would really like to use this internet-anywhere capability to sync with my office servers that contain my schedule and other assorted things over the internet. Does anyone know if syncing to a publicly available IP address is possible? If so I imagine I need to forward a few ports of some such.
Thanks saq | |||

Welcome to the site and congratulations on your purchase.
![]() Yes it is possible to sync over the internet. There are two ways of doing it. Either you can do it using VPN or a less secure way by using software for TCP/IP address name resolution. Normally when dealing with corporate LANs there is a corporate firewall. I would check to see if your corporate LAN supports VPN access. If so then it is just a matter of getting the configuration of the VPN connection (check with your network administrators). WM2003 SE has builtin VPN support so setting it up to work should not be an issue. Several people here use VPN so a number of people here can help. But first check with your network administrators to see if VPN access is an option.

Has any conquered the task of Syncing over the internet? I have read two million post on other sites about using PocketHost and opening ports on the router/firewall, but have not actually seen where it was confirmed working. I am running XP SP2 with an iPaq 5455, if you could help , please respond...

activesync critical communications services have failed to start. It's not a firewall problem (I don't think). I would like to try the VPN one, but not sure how to do that. Any pointers or URLs?
