AS versions puzzle

I recently purchased a h6315 and have been having AS woes. I first attempted connecting via the USB cradle using 3.7.1, which shipped with the unit. That version of AS would detect when I placed the iPaq in the cradle and would initiate a connection, but the connection would never be establish; that green wheel would just keep spinning and spinning while saying, "Connecting..."

Today, I tried AS 3.5. With this version, I can actually establish a connection, browse the PDA from my desktop, and transfer files back and forth. However, I am not able to sync because 3.5 is not compatible with this device. The exact message I get is "An incompatible version of Microsoft ActiveSync software has been detected. Synchronization has bee disabled. Upgrade ActiveSync on your desktop computer and reconnect"

When I upgrade to 3.7 or 3.7.1, Windows detects new hardware: "HP USB Sync". The hardware is successfully installed and is ready to use, but that perpetually spinning green circle returns. Please advise, as I really like this device and would hate to have to return it because I can't solve this AS problem.

Thank you very much

Please help. I don't want to have to return it but I've tried everything I can think of to do.
