Can't AS over BT
I'm having problems activesyncing via BT.
I have set up a serial connection between my 5500 & laptop. I've done this starting from the ipaq & also starting from the laptop - no problem. Bluetooth on my laptop says its virtual COM port 4 & sure enough connections initialised from either place say they're connected on COM 4 I've gone into AS connection settings on my laptop & checked for a connection to be enabled via COM port 4. But when I connect the serial connection, AS brings up a msg saying it can't find my device which is either connected improperly or not a PPC. What am I missing?

I get the shortcut on my ipaq & when I select ‘connect’, I get a message “Connection established” (and I get the 2 green arrows & the AS icon turns green) Then the AS dialog box comes up & says “Connecting to Host”. When it disappears, the serial connection has gone. My desktop meanwhile does nothing – AS isn’t opened & synchronization doesn’t start. So it seems like I can make a serial connection but AS doesn’t recognize it. Any ideas? Btw I saw elsewhere on the forum that Norton Internet Security 2004 may cause problems – I checked & enabled ports 5678, 5679, 990 & 999 just in case that was the issue – still no luck.

Sony Bt Software Incompatible
Aha - after several weeks of frustration I have the answer (not one I like much, but there we are)
My apologies to all - it seems I was approaching this from entirely the wrong angle, i.e. the iPAQ & ActiveSync when apparently its my laptop (Sony) and the bluetooth software (BlueSpace NE) that's the issue. Should this be the case for anyone else, this is what I found when I finally decided that since I didn't have the "My Bluetooth Places" that everyone was talking about maybe I should research my BT software for serial port no. answers... http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp...=656&page_no=1

I apologize. I should have mentioned earlier that any attempts that I made with AS via BT was using the Widcomm BT drivers. All of my PPCs as well as both of my USB BT adapters use the Widcomm drivers. I have found the most success with devices that use the Widcomm drivers.

Please, don't apologise! I always hope you respond to my posts because you're always spot on. I simply didn't know the right question to ask - even if you'd mentioned "widcomm" it wouldn't have occured to me that the BT driver was the issue. Guess I assumed all laptops were created equal, but apparently not!
I haven't decided which solution I'm going to attempt yet but I'm sure it'll involve a widcomm driver. Mostly, having seen this question on a couple of forums but never finding an answer, I wanted to put the solution out there in case it strikes a chord with someone else.

Good deal.
![]() I have been fortunate not to have alot of Bluetooth issues because the Widcomm drivers are very good. I try to make sure that any BT device that I get uses the Widcomm driver.
