Copying Large Files to SD Card

Has anyone ever found a way to get large files copied to your SD card via ActiveSync any quicker?

I know card readers aren't expensive and I may have to go down that route but what exactly is the issue with AS when copying a file across? It takes absolutely forever and in a lot of cases just hangs. In case I'm not being clear I mean when your Ipaq is docked and the SD card is in the Ipaq.

At the moment I actually put the SD card in my digi camera and copy files to it that way which is about a gazillion times quicker. But I'd just like to avoid having to remove the card and transfer it to another device anytime I copy a movie to it. Frankly it's a pain

Is this just something I have to live with when using Active Sync???

Thanks.
It's not a fault - it's a feature of the software.....

I would actually go with the card reader option. I actually always used to go through AS in prior experiences and it almost never locked up but I would probably have to leave it alone for about 1/2 hour or so to get a movie moved over to my card. It was a pain but it worked like 99% of the time if I left it alone. After getting my card reader w/ USB 2.0 it's soooo much quicker.

Check around for deals. I got an 8-in-1 card reader for $13.99 with a $14 rebate from Ecost (check www.techbargains.com for other deals). After shipping and handling I had out-of-pocket expense of less than $5. You won't regret it. Make sure it's USB 2 if you have USB 2 ports.

The new hx4700 is much faster with ActiveSync. I don't want to compare it to a standalone card reader, but it is fast. I calculated it to about 19mb per minute (real mb, not megabits) That may not be as fast as a card reader, but it's a lot faster than my 3835 was!!

You can get a PPC that could be faster than others but the common thread is activesync in the middle. The best and fastest way to transfer large files to the SD card is using a USB card reader.

USB 2.0 card readers are cheap. Plus you are working off the Bus of the desktop. Transferring via Activesync travels through the USB port on the desktop and then has to transverse across the Bus of the PPC (which is slower than the Bus of a desktop).

Thanks for the replies. Looks like a card reader it is then!

Think I'll try to get one of the thumb reader types like the Lexar JumpDrive Trio. Seems to do what I want plus is very flexible in the way it can be used. Anyone got one of these?

Good choice! I don't have one personally but I know quite a few people have them and they love it.
