Active Sync and XP SP2

I am running XP Pro with MS Active Sync on my iPAQ 3995. I have had no problems with sync until I downloaded MS XP SP2. Now, I cannot synchronize any data from computer to iPAQ. I have uninstalled MS Active Sync and reinstalled to no effect. Any recommendations?

Did it ask you if you wanted to give ActiveSync access when you first installed SP2? If it did and you answered yes, then it should work. I'd try disabling the WinXP firewall to see if that's the problem.

I agree with ikehiker about the WinXP firewall. It is enabled by default with SP2. It can wreak havoc on AS. Try disabling it.

I had the same issue and all I did was go to Control Panel-->Windows Firewall-->Uncheck Dont allow exceptions (if checked)-->Exceptions Tab-->Check "ActiveSync Application. If there is not a selection for ActiveSync Application, just click the "Add Program" button and add it to the list of exceptions..

I have tried this and still no success. I also checked to allow Active Sync when I first intalled SP2 update. I will now go through the entire process again to see if that works.

Yes, I did this. I will try to disable firewall to see if that solves it. Thanks.

I don't think you need to disable the whole firewall; the first time after you install SP2 that you try to connect on ActiveSync, it should come up with a warning from the firewall stating that an application is trying to gain access to your computer...from there you should be able to choose "don't allow ever", "allow this time" (which means you'll get this every time you sync, or "always allow". These aren't the exact choices, but you get the idea.

Hope that helps.

Ikehiker is very correct. My wife has a 2215 that she wanted me sync with her new laptop (just last night). I tried to connect but no luck. Checked her firewall settings to make sure ActiveSync Application was allowed and still no connection. I then checked the TCP/IP settings to make sure NetBios was enabled, and disabled the firewall. Bam, instant wireless sync... I then reactivated the firewall and she was still able to connect wirelessly.

If you are syncing via the cradle the SP 2 and the famous Windows Firewall are defenetly not the issue. I tested to sync my PDA after I answer block the active sync manager and it work no problem (Favourites) I have no mail set up on the test machine. Any way tomorrow I going to try it on a home computer but don’t blame only Firewall
Cheers,
Ivan
