5455 Sync Problem-USB Device Not Found
I have had sporadic problems with getting the 5455 recognized when placed in the cradle. I was always able to get it to sync eventually by removing and replacing until it was recognized. Recentlly I went through a series of uninstall/reinstalls of Active Sync and now the device is never recognized. I get a "USB Device Not Recognized" message and when I look at the Unkown Device in the Herdware Profile is says it is a standard USB contrioller and it doesn't have a driver (I may have deleted it in my attempts to fix). Does it need a driver and if so, where can I find one? Any other suggestions?

Welcome to iPaqHQ!
![]() If you don't have it I would recommend getting the latest version of Activesync. The latest version is 3.7.1 (build 4034). It also fixes some USB problems. You can download it from here.

Thanks for the reply and the welcome. I do have that version and have uninstalled and reinstalled a few times. I'm going to try it again and carefully follow the sequence (install ActiveSync, auuach USB, insert IPAQ). Paul Update: After uninstall/reinstall and following sequence I still get the USB Device Not recognized error. It checks com ports, sees that USB is available but goes no further.

I think part of the issue is that AS software must be available when Windows tries to 'find' the driver for the "New Device" the first time. Let us know how you get on.

I did it in that order and still I get the same message. The driver seems to be missing. Is there somewhere that I can get the driver and then install it manually?

There really is no drivers to download. The PPC is acting as a USB client that is pretty much plug-and-play after Activesync is installed. It sounds as if you are having USB issues on your desktop. I would do the following if you have not done so:
1) Completely remove Activesync. 2) Open Windows Explorer on your desktop. Goto Documents and Settings/<username>/Application Data/Microsoft. If you see a Activesync directory then remove it. 3) Goto the hardware profile, locate the unknown device and delete it. 4) Reboot the computer. Make sure that the cradle and the PPC is not connected to the USB port. 5) Reinstall the latest version of Activesync. When prompted connect the cradle to the USB port and then the PPC.

Good chance you have a broken switchboard. If you want to fix it yourself try www.gethightech.com
There are step by step instructions on taking ipaq's apart too... They are out of stock of the switchboards... (just checked) but pdasmart has them... http://www.pdasmart.com/ipaqparts5400.htm
