Activesync Calendar issues with Exchange 2003

I am a new user to this forum. I appreciate any help in advance.

I have my hx4700 setup to synchronize with my office's exchange 2003 server. The mail works great. However, the calendar does not synchronize as expected.
1. If I add appointments to the Ipaq and synchronize with the exchange server - the appointments will exist on the server and be displayed on my Outlook Calendar for some time (I am not sure how long seems to vary) and then the appointments disappear from Outlook and Outlook via web interface - however, the appointments remain on my Ipaq. The appointments are recurring and I should be seeing them both places (This is the problem, I would like them to remain in my calendar)
2. If I add appointments via Outlook, a similar issue occurs as in number 1. The appointments are seemingly downloaded to the Ipaq and are eventually seeminlgy purged from the exchange server. I cannot see them via the web interface or via the Outlook 2003 client.

I have tried changing the server settings of activesync so that the device will overwrite the server or vice versa. This did not seem to make a difference. I set activesync to download all calendar information, this did not seem to make a difference.
I am using activesync 3.7.1 . The exchange server is 2003 with the latest patches and service packs.

Continues to confuse me

I am not sure why this does not work as expected. I have tried adding new calendar appointments to the Ipaq and then they seem to synch to my exchange server for a few days, but then, they appear only on the ipaq. No longer on the exchange server.
I have also tried adding new appointments to the calendar using Outlook connected to the exchange server, and everything seems great and the appointments appear synched on the ipaq and the outlook client, but in a few days, even before the appointments occur, they are no longer shown on my Outlook client. They seem to be off the exchange 2003 server. The appointments remain on the Ipaq.
I have modified appointments slightly, and these synch for a few days and the same behavior as described above occurs.
Any suggestions?

Do you use Auto Archiving on your Outlook client? Try turning it off.

I had auto archiving turned off on my Outlook 2003 client. But, I did find that auto archiving was turned on for the calendar. I will see if the suggested change resolves my issue.
Thanks!

That did not resolve the issue either. All of the appointments that were displayed yesterday, are now only on the Ipaq and not on the exchange 2003 server. This is so annoying... Any other suggestions?

contacts also erased on the server

I have been troubled by this issue since I originally posted and now I am realizing that my contacts are being erased on the server as well. Does anyone know how to fix this synchronization issue?

Just to clarify things for me -

What you are saying is that any old stuff disappears from the office's exchange server? Assuming that you are not the only user of this server, have you checked with others to see if their old stuff is also being deleted from the server (regardless of whether or not they have IPaqs) - if so, then you need to speak with whoever is responsible for the server, as it sounds like a policy has been set up on the server to delete old stuff. If not, then my first step would still be to speak to whoever looks after the server, to see if your exchange account has a setting that should/shouldn't be set to stop old stuff being deleted.

Sorry if you've already done all this, but I think it's important to rule out the exchange server as the culprit before looking at other possible causes.
