USB Sync no longer works

Hello everyone,

Had a few problems with my ipaq this week.

My battery had gone totaly flat and had to reset and charge for a bit but it came on so that much is fixed.

However before this happened for some reason active sync decided it couldnt see my pda anymore, which was very odd as it had been in the cradle for weeks.

I have read many posts on here with similar problems. Mine however does no give any errors, activesync simply doesnt see anything at all, get connected says usb is available, i have tried the reinstall, reboot, plug in route and am still stuck. I have even tried reinstalling the usb controller drivers on the motherboard.

If anyone has any ideas how to fix this id be most greatful.

P.S. One small thing i noticed, when it finishes searching for devices you get the jingle sound like you get when you disconect it.

Hi funy- welcome to the site

Have you tried recreating a partnership.

When yoru iPaq is not in the cradle, open AS on your PC and go to File>Delete Partnership and delete any partnerships there.

Then try and resync.

Let us know how you get on.
Regards

Rob

there are no partnerships, ive removed activesysnc totaly and put it back on, (and deleted the folder too).

Ive tried this with cradle and a 3rd party sync cable too.

I cant actually get into the program at the moment as every time it starts its looking for the ipaq.

Im going to crash now as im not feeling too good but i'll check back in the morning.

Thanks

Ben

Ben - check your USB ports - on your PC go to Start>Control Panel> System> Hardware Tab> Device Manager and see if you have any yellow question marks.

If so delete them and reboot your PC (With the cradle unplugged).

Remove AS, reboot again - Get the latest version of AS from the MS website and then try loading AS again (remember to start with the cradle NOT plugged in).
Regards

Rob

i have no question marks at the moment, but I will try again what you said, im at work today so i'll give it a go when i get home, thanks.

edit: i havent been home to try this yet, but ive tried it on 2 pcs here at work with the same effect.

It is very odd as it works on serial (but its slow ) the only thing i can think is that the plug on the bottom of the ipaq is broken in some way.

Is this replaceable? can hp do a repair at a reasonable price?

Thanks.

That could be it - the same thing happened to me, but one of the pins was just bent so on the basis that I couldn't mess it up any worse, I used a pencil lead to straighten it. And it worked! (No-one was more amazed than me!)

Can you see a problem in the plug - pins out of line etc.?

i'll take a look in a minute.

Thinking back i did at one point have a bit of an accident with the pda.

It was in its cradle/mount on my windscreen (i use it for gps) and had the power cable going to my cigar/cigarrette lighter and some idiot cut me up and i had to push hard on the brakes and my bag flew forward and pulled hard on the cable which i quickly released and sorted the cable to avoid damage. It had synced since then but just stopped one day, i will see if i can straighten it, if not can i replace this bit myself or would i have to send it off to hp?

Thanks.

edit: just had a look, there is no visible damage.

Before you do that - perform a hard reset on your iPaq and try again (BTW - I am assuming that you have performed frequent soft resets when try to get them to connect - if not do that first).
