Microsoft releases ActiveSync 3.8

Eveyones favorite software has just been updated. Not sure what has been fixed, updated or broke. Use the link because Microsoft has not updated their Windows Mobile web site yet with the new download.

Trying to install the updated version has been an unmitigated DISASTER for me. I keep getting the following error message:

"Setup could not copy the file c:\Documents and Settings\Jhilliard\Local Settings\Temp\IXP011.TMP\core\inf\wceubsh.cat (Copy error - 1). Restart your computer and run set up again."

I checked my c: drive for the file it's trying to copy and there is no such file. That's why I keep getting the error. I tried going back to 3.7.1, which was working just fine and now get the same error message. Any suggestions?

How did you go about doing the upgrade?

Did you try to upgrade over the 3.7.1 version or did you uninstall 3.7.1 and then install 3.8?

IT guy here at the office has no clue what the problem is. He couldn't even install AS under his Administrator profile.

I tried to install it over 3.7.1, but there was nothing on the Microsoft download page that instructed current users to uninstall previous versions before they install 3.8. Here's the progression of events:

Download and run 3.8 setup.
Error message received (see initial post above)
Restarted computer and ran 3.8 set up again.
Same error message received.
Went to Settings/Add or Remove Programs and tried to uninstall ActiveSync, but it didn't appear in the menu of programs to remove.
Stupidly went to c: Program Files/Microsoft ActiveSync and deleted it.
Went to registry and looked for traces of MSASYNC to clear out; nothing, so didn't touch the registry
Tried to download and install 3.7.1
Same error message received.
Looked in c: drive for file referenced in error message and could not find it. Could find IXP001.TMP through IXP010.TMP, but there is no IXP011.TMP
And here I sit unable to sync.

just installed AS 3.8 and had no problems. installed straight over AS 3.7.1 (removed device from the cradle first). about Activesync now reports I have Activesync 3.8.0 (Build 5004) and i have just done a complete sync.. no problems.

can't see any difference to AS 3.7.1.

Hi Guys,
I`ve just upgraded from 3.7 to 3.8 with no issues. The only thing that I make sure of is that I`ve closed all applications down and got nothing else running whilst doing the upgrade

I finally figured out the solution to my File Copy Error. I tried installing the upgrade with my device still in the cradle. Bad move. Bad, bad move. Once I removed the device, ActiveSync 3.8 installed with no problems whatsoever. I feel like such an idiot for spending all day whining about this problem. Sorry
