Activesync screws up Broadband Connection
Help,
I don't know what I've done but my Activesync connection seems to screw up my broadband connection and vice versa. 4700 connected via USB and cradle to Dell desktop running XP Pro. Speedtouch broadband modem connected to desktop via USB. After booting up the desktop the broadband works fine. When I drop the 4700 in the cradle it syncs up fine but the broadband access stops working. The Speedtouch still seems to connected to the ISP but I can't access any web pages. If I disconnect from the ISP and try to reconnect, the logs just say trying to verify username and password. It retries multiple time and then gives up. The only way to get the broadband back is to remove the 4700 from the cradle and reboot the desktop. In addition, the Activesync connection always drops after about 90 seconds. I've de-installed Active sync and the broadband stuff from the desk top. If I just install the broadband stuff then its fine. If I just install Activesync its fine (stays connected). If I install both then as soon as I put the 4700 in the cradle the problem comes back. I've done a hard reset on the 4700 and restored it. Still I have the problem. The spooky thing is that if I connect the Speedtouch and the cradle + 4700 to my laptop running XP Pro then it all hangs together nicely. Don't ask me what I've changed coz I've been twatting about with lots of stuff, wired and wireless networks etc. ![]()

Sounds like the USB ports just stop working after you disconnect the device from the cradle. I have something similar like this happen to me. I have my broadband modem hanging directly off my Linux firewall so I don't run into issues like that.
What I would suggest is making sure that your sync cradle and your broadband modem is connect to different USB buses. If all of the ports fail on one bus and you have the broadband modem and the cradle on the same bus then access to the internet will fail. Keeping the cradle and the broadband modem separated on different buses will help prevent circumstances where you would need to reboot. As far as why the USB ports stop working I have not pinned that one down yet. I would just suggest making sure that you are running the latest version of Activesync.

That sounds like its worth a go although I'm not sure what the definition of separate USB buses is!
When it was working, both of the devices were plugged straight into the back of the PC. Since I acquired the new laptop and haven't yet got my neworking sorted, I've plugged the cradle and Speedtouch into the USB hub built into my monitor (which plugs into one port on the back of the pc) so they are easy to plug into the laptop when required. Once I get the kids in bed I'll try it

Well,
B****r me sideways. That fixed it. I am the happiest man in the world! Well apart from Michael Shumacher, he's richer than me, he's got more hair than me, he's younger than me and he gets paid megabucks for having fun. Don't suppose you could fix that for me as well? On a serious note, that's cured the problem but not answered why it happens. I'll try to see if I can find a forum which can explain why they conflict. Cheers! P.s. could you get me Kiera Knightly whilst you're at it!

Glad you got it sorted Just to help in your search for a solution I think that the issue is more likely to be with the USB drivers/ implementation on your motherboard rather than the devices themselves. (This is just from my experience).
