restore after hard reset? have synced but no backup

I've not found the answer to this question directly....

I didn't have a backup of my ipaq before doing a hard reset. I have been syncing it though.

What's the (step-by-step?) process to get the ipaq back as close as possible to where it was before the hard reset without a "backup/restore"?

Thanks very much,
Ken

Ken,

Welcome to this superb website and forum.

Since you are back in ActiveSync again, if you connect the pocket pc to ActiveSync and then look at the Activesync -> Tools -> Add/Remove Programs, you should find majority of the software you have installed there. Select the programs will allow the software to be installed on the pocket pc quite quickly.

This is by far the quickest way to do it, except:
1. Some software, after installation, requires a software reset. These software should be installed last, or separately from other "normal" softwares, to reduce the number of times you have to soft reset.
2. If some softwares you prefer to install in different locations than Main Memory (say, Ipaq file store or SD card), you have to install these software separately from the ones to the main memory.
3. Some particular softwares do not register itself in such a location, you have to initiate an install from the original installation file/cab file.

But in general, this can quickly get you back to as close to the softwares you installed as possible.

However, you have to configure all the software separately if you do a lot of customisation before using them.

Good luck, hope I'm not talking too much rubbish.

Thanks a lot Paul! From now on, I'll do a backup in addition to the sync!
