REALLY loud sound when device connects....

I have a new "Dell Inspiron 9200" laptop and when I connect my iPaq6315 (USB) the computer makes a very loud single tone sound and then does it again when I disconnect. I have all sounds turned off on my laptop and even mute the volume, but it still makes the same sound (enough to wake up our new baby!!!). Anyone know what to do?

I get the same effect (Dell 5150 laptop used with an HP Rz1710)

If found you can safely go to program files/microsoft activsync and delete the connect and disconnect sound files.

No errors or problems caused by removing them to date.
