Sync only OK if Inbox excluded

Can anyone explain to me why Activesync 3.8 worked fine on my other machine, but not on my new machine.
Only difference is I run XP SP2 on my new machine.
Disabling Firewall (without reboot) didn't fix it.
The problem is that sync works fine (and stays connected) if I only synchronize Notes, Tasks and Calender.
As soon as I try to sync one or more mailfolders, it hangs after two or three messages and disconnects...
TIA
Paul

Hi Paul - welcome to the site

Is the previous partnership still on your device? You are only able to sync to the inbox on one machine (other folders such as tasks etc can sync to more than one).

This is just a limitation of Activesync.

Hello Rob,
thanks for the welcome ;-)
The previous partnership will certainly be still on the iPaq as I wouldn't know how to remove it. As I saw explained in another thread I removed the installation from last weekend from my pc.
But I didn't change anything on the pda.
Can you tell me how to remove the partnership on my iPaq?
TIA

Pollepap,

Welcome to the site.

The problem is that when you set up the first partnership of your iPAQ, you allowed the iPAQ to sync more than 1 computer, then you set up the 2nd partnership with the 2nd computer.

By default, ActiveSync can allow you to sync more than 1 calendar, 1 task list to Pocket Outlook, but NOT the inbox.

I think this is a welcome feature. Say I have on computer 1 abc@bc.com setup as the email address, but on computer 2 bcd@cd.com. In theory this 2 inbox should NOT be mixed, and this is what ActiveSync did. As it may not know where to reply the email to if it is going through ActiveSync. Even if the same account is setup on both computer, it will still not work.

Bear in mind, ActiveSync is a service, similar to Pop service, but you can't specify any settings like POP did (username, password, pop, smtp, etc..). Thus this is where the root cause is.

So it's advisable for you to sync your email only from one location.

Hope I have explained clearly.

Indeed a clear and understandable explanation.
But since I'm not using the first notebook anymore, can i reset the profile on my iPaq so that it only sees my second notebook as the one whose Inbox should be synched?
That would be the solution, not?
Also I obviously prefer solutions which don't imply a hard reset, if possible...
TIA
Paul

Open AS on your PC and go to File>Get connected and follow the wizard.

If I remember correctly (it is a long time since I did this) somewhere along the wizard it will bring up the current partnerships which will allow you to delete the one you are no longer using.

Let us know how you get on.
Regards

Rob

Hello,
I tried and everything went well as planned, as long as didn't sync my Inbox.
I have 26 mails to sync and right at the first, the progress bar freezes and after a while, my notebook loses connection wit my PDA :-(
This is driving me nuts... There MUST be a way to get this right... I think...

Hello all,
I finally succeeded!!
Trial and error and finally I moved all my mails on my desktop to a temp folder, deleted all mails from my iPaq, got it out of the craddle, put it back in, deleted 36 (non-existing) mails, took the pda out of the craddle again, put it back in, deleted 26 (non-existing) mails, etc...
Finally, no mails on my iPaq, rebooted pc, tried to sync and... YES !!!
No more error messages or lost connection.
Put mails back in their place (kept a copy in the temp folder, to make sure :-) ) and everything took some time, but the result is that I went to work this morning with a happy feeling
Tnx for the support, hopes my story helps out other people...
Greetz,
Paul
