I used AS 3.7.1 to sync between desktop and ipaq 4700 pocketpc. Everything worked fine until upgrading to 3.8. I uninstalled 3.7.1 and installed 3.8 (without the ipaq in the craddle). Now AS doesnt work anymore.
I've tried to reinstall 3.8 and 3.7.1 all without result. After uninstalling the old AS, the setup procedure asks for the ppc. When I put the ipaq in the craddle the desktop (Win xp pro) gives a msg that new hardware is installed and ready to use. The setup stops without an error. There is no msg about guest or partnership.
In the taskbar i can see a green icon. When i rightclick on that i see that it is connected. I can click on the option "open ms activesync" but nothing happens. When i click on explore i get an error "critical communcation services are not sterted".
When i remove the ipaq from the craddle and put it back again, i hear a sound ( the same i heard when it did work fine). However AS doenst start.

Any idea what to do?

I have no suggestions; I'm just fascinated by the many ways Activesync can not work. That's an entirely different error message from any of the ones I've gotten.

Have you tried rebooting the PC?

When you uninstalled 3.7 did you then check through your PC to make sure that ALL folders were deleted (the uninstall procedure doesn't always do this). Have a look under Document & Settings\<user>\application data\microsoft, & delete the folder called 'activesync'.
