ActiveSync over network not working

When my Pocket PC is connected to the network via 802.11b, I am able to sync to the exchange server with out a problem. However, I am not able to sync to the PC (so tasks, notes, etc.)

It errors out and tells me to restart my device and try again. All firewall settings are taken care of for ActiveSync on the PC. Before I upgraded to AS 3.8, it would even go so far as to beep at me like it is trying to sync. Now I just error out. "Cannot start communications with the desktop computer." "Reconnect your device. If the problem persits, see Microsoft ActiveSync Help."

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=883903 check that

Once I get this working, then I will need to be able to do the same thing via a VPN. It seems like the connection management in WM2003SE is kind of goofy. Its not like I can just click on something and say "okay, connect to this VPN real quick over whatever my current internet connection is!"

I found this post http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showt...697#post667697 and followed through it. Seems like same issue yet I can't get the same fix.

Ive also just disabled the firewall outright and still no go.

This is an ongoing problem with ActiveSync over WiFi...I've followed that AximSite tutorial as well and my settings are dead-on accurate but I cannot sync to my laptop in the office via WiFi...

It's very frustrating and I wish MS would just come out and say "Yeah we know it's BORFed and we're working on it"...

Compaq C810 --> iPAQ h5450 --> Toshiba E800 --> HP hx4700

I've started to go bonkos myself, and I feel better knowing I'm not the only one. I was syncing my T-Mobile Pocket PC Phone running WM2003 just fine to my Exchange server and desktop PC over the Internet/VPN for many months, but now that I've replaced it with a gorgeous i-mate Jam & WM2003SE, I'm getting exactly the behavior you're describing--and I know good and well that there's nothing wrong with my network environment. I was really getting frustrated, but finding your posts at least I feel better that, you know, it's not me. But...WTF??!!

Please tell me you've found a fix since those posts....

Shit I wish. What makes me sad is you have the setup that I want to be able to do I have an Axim and a nokia 6600 w/ blue tooth. I have internet working and I can sync since the sync to the exchange server goes over port 80. However I can't get VPNs to work over that connection or any connection for that matter.

Even if I did, it wouldn't matter. I still can't get it to sync over the LAN yet alone over a VPN'd LAN. I keep running into more and more people that can't get it to work.

I started this thread at axim site http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showt...d=1#post687447

If you can give me some nmap results and let me know your OS + SP that might help...
