Your device was not detected?
Hello folks,
I'm a new poster with what I percieve to be a big problem. I hope I'm wrong. Last week I decided to install some security software on my laptop. I have always sync'd my PPC with the laptop and have been doing so since Aug of last year. Somehow, after installing the security software, I was unable to sync my PPC. I was using AS 3.7 but have since upgraded to 3.8. Still no luck. I deleted the partnership and tried to redetect my device with no luck. My device installs to the device manager o.k. but when I run AS it says "Your device was not detected". I'm a bit worried, especially when I read the warning label inside the box the iPAQ 4155 came in, I quote "Do not connect cradle or cable to computer until you have finished installing ActiveSync software on your computer from the CD. Failure to do so may prevent you unit from ever sychronizing properly." Does anyone have a clue? Have I disabled my unit from synchronizing? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Gunner

Well, I'm pretty sure it's fixable. I think I've done this once as well. I can't remember how I fixed it but I know there are experts on this forum who will....in the meantime did you try uninstalling AS, deleting partnerships, etc...in other words getting back to the pre-problem state and starting over.
Also try using the "search" feature in the ActiveSync forum. This place is great and I'm sure there will be some more qualified members along shortly if this doesn't produce results!

What security software did you install?
It sounds as though you need to configure either: - your firewalll to allow AS access - Your AV to allow AS to run.

I sure hope it's fixable. I've uninstalled AS a couple of times. I did delete the partnership, was never able to get the partnership wizzard to run so I took my system back to a date when I had the partnership. I even went so far as to do a hard reset on my PPC. Thanks for the help. I'll try a search on the forum.

Hi Rob,
I installed Freedom Security software. I'm pretty certain I have the firewall and AV set to let AS run. I even tried to get AS to run with all the security functions turned off, to include Windows firewall. AS seems to launch ok, it just isn't detecting my PPC for some reason. I checked the device manager and all indications there are the device is running just fine.

AS starts when the PPC is placed in the cradle. The PPC flashes with a quick window saying something like "connecting to host" then a quick window saying "user authenticated" then AS green spinning wheel goes gray and AS screen says "not connected" When it was running correctly, I would get two distinct tones when the PPC would be placed in cradle, first was a "ding-dong" tone then a rising tone with six or seven notes rising in pitch. I don't get that second tone anymore.

wait...how about.....
My Computer>Properties>Hardware>Device Manager..... Then while in cradle....look for WIndows USB CE Devices. CLick on +, then right click on HP USB Sybc and hit uninstall... Then unplug PPC, and UNinstall active sync. Restart computer, reinstall active sync 1st, then plug in the PPC.
