ActiveSync Why has it taken so long for this category?

"file As" Field Not Syncing With Outlook...

You've gotta forgive me -- I am from the Palm world where everything sync'ed without my thinking about it. Man -- I sync'ed three PCs in my sleep!

Now I am in this Microsoft world where it appears that when I enter data on my PC and sync with my iPAQ, ActiveSync doesn't bother to sync all the fields. Is this true? Why would I desire this to occur?

Man -- I love my iPAQ, but I am deeply confused concerning these non-syncronization events.

Are the items you want synched checked off in ActiveSync? Connect the iPAQ go under "options" button. There is a tab labeled "Sync Options" and a whole bunch of check boxes. Make sure the items you want synced are checked then highlight and click "settings" and make sure they are set to your liking. Its a decent start to make sure everything is set up right and we can work from there.

Thanks for the quick reply.

Yes. It is set to sync the contacts (and more). When I click SETTINGS, I see it is set to sync all contacts.

When I click the Rules tab, Conflict Resolution says
DESKTOP: Leave the item unresolved.
SERVER: Always replace the item on the device.

I have file conversion turned off because I use Textmaker and Planmaker in Word and Excel formates.

Connection: Work.

What next?

Oh -- I went in and changed the RULE to ALWAYS REPLACE THE ITEM ON THIS COMPUTER.

It didn't.

PocketOutlook does not have the ability to use/ sync all the fields - which fields are you after which are missing?

What programme are you trying to view the contact in - as that may be the problem?

It does on mine - using both PocketInformant and PocketBreeze I can see that it does

What programme are you using on your iPaq I meant.

When you edit a contact in PI go to the second tab - is the "File as" not there?

Oddly, I have this same type of problem, but have not taken the time to try and pin it down. I find the syncing of the "File As" field sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.

At home I use AS 3.8/Outlook2003. At work I use Intellisync/Outlook2003.

Every once in a while I find the File As field has been reset on the PC, usually at work because that is where I use that field the most. I set it back and all is good for a while.

It is not consistent, nor a priority for me, so it has remained a "back burner" issue.

When I edit a contact in PI and go to the SECOND tab (the one that looks like a suitcase), "File as" is NOT there.

When I edit a contact in PI and go to the FOURTH tab (the one that is a blue circle around a lower-case i), "File As" is there. I select the DROP DOWN beside and select the data I want in that field.

Then I sync and the OUTLOOK 2003 field, "File As" does NOT update.

I am using PI 5, 6, 2, 0194.
