Contact fields Outlook vs. iPAQ: mapping?
Hi, my first post here, hello from Munich/Germany...
a) I'm wondering a little bit that I do not find any questions (and thus no answers;-) on mapping of fields between iPAQ and Outlook (when synchronizing with ActiveSync)... okay, its a German version of iPAQ and Outlook, but for me it does not really map... so I'm looking for e.g. a map table fieldname iPAQ vs. fieldname Outlook ... is there somewhere a table available which fields information of Outlook is mapped to which field information on iPAQ and vice versa??? (As I said, I'm wondering... either nobody uses all the fields, even if the names of the fields, at least in German, are a little bit misleading, or nobody bothers where his infomation he put into his iPAQ vanishes in the depth of Outlook on his PC...???!!! )Add.: In German iPAQ e.g. are fields like (I translate "Car Phone", "Pager", "Tel.2 Office", "E-Mail2", "E-Mail3", "Sekretary", "Partner", "Children", etc... all these fields are not easy to find in Outlook! But nobody seems to ask for a mapping table, or even bothers...b) And: Is there a possibility to change the iPAQ fields? Thanks in advance for help on my 2 topics... Best regards, Chris

Are you referring to categories, and not fields?
If you are just using the default PIM (Pocket Outlook), then you will not have many options, regardless of what you do. Use programs like Pocket Informant, or Agenda Fusion.....I think that you'll be happy after trying them out!

It sounds like he is talking about fields
You might try a third party syncing app like Intellisync, which does let you map fields. of course you will be limited by the fields available on the pda, but it is a huge step closer to what you want. Now just because they are mapped, doesn't mean you can actually change the names of either....but it would have the right data.

Kind of new to IPAQ. Had Zaurus, Palm etc. but because of work had to go to windows.. I was used to a program called datebook 2 on Palm that enhanced the calendar function. Have heard a lot about Pocket Informant. Is it that much of an improvement over the default ? Also does it take up much space. In your opinion would it be worth the cost.

With Pocket Informant, you can have alot (if not all) fields that Outlook has, spare the custom fields (if you have any).
Like the ones you mentioned "Car Phone", "Pager", "Tel.2 Office", "E-Mail2", "E-Mail3"...they are sync'd with Pocket Informant automatically. And for the above post..yes, it is definately worth the cost. PI can do SO many more things than the default PIM can do, and the interface is so much better, as well as functional.
