Won't stay connected to sync - HELP!

I have an HP iPAQ and using ActiveSync's latest version. Until two weeks
ago, no problems. No changes were made to applications, etc. Same as
always. However, now when I attempt to sync PC to PocketPC (and get my
AvantGo updates, etc.), the connection is made for a split second, then it
gives me this error:

"Synchonization cannot be completed successfully. Disconnect your device
and try again. If the problem persists, see the Microsoft ActiveSync
Troubleshooter in Microsoft ActiveSynce Help on your desktop computer."

I have de-installed and reinstalled ActiveSync. I have tried the
troubleshooter to no avail. HELP!

I would try to remove the partnership from both the PC and the PPC and start over again. On the PC go to the ActiveSync application and then file-delete partnership. On the PPC you need a registry editor (check around for a free one). Go to the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER-SOFTWARE-Microsoft-Windows CE Service-Partners and delete the keys P1 and P2.

That should start you over fresh. When you synch for the first time AS will ask if you want to overwrite or combine. Chose whatever option suits your situation.

If that doesn't work I would suspect a hardware problem, maybe with the sync cable or cradle.

Confused

Pardon me for asking a dumb question maybe, but if I need a registry editor for the PPC, how would I load it onto the PPC when I can't sync???

ahh thats a good one! he probably didnt think of that. do you have a sd or cf card? ifso do you have a desktop card reader/writer? or a printer with card slots? or the last way is to go online with your ppc and download a program that is in CAB file format. here is one that should do the trick

I suggest a search on Chris De Herrera's ActiveSync Troubleshooting Guide. It's the best site for ActiveSync problems. BTW, please do not cross post. It's not allowed so I've removed your other thread.

Or grap the registry editor of your choice and start to install the program. You will get a message that AS is not connected and will install on the next connection. Now go to the Program Files directory on your PC and you should be able to find the program either under its own directory name or in the Active Sync directory. If you are lucky you will see the cab file there waiting for the next AS connect to install. Grap that file and email it to yourself and pick it up on the PPC.

Of course if you don't have internet access on your PPC you will need a card reader or a friend who has a reader.

STILL not working

I installed a registry editor (not easy since no sync, but I managed...yay me). I deleted partnership from activesync and edited the PPC registry as per suggestion. I tried syncing and still get same message.

I also did a soft reset and it didn't help.

Any more suggestions? *very sad, tired, frustrated user*

ok trishy, funny how i was telling you about how to fix it i had the same problem today again.. i just reinstalled it and created a new partnership.. try this, when you put your ppc into the cradle and the active sync window pops up and after it shuts down open up the options and uncheck all of your syncing items ie calendar, avant go, and everything else checked. then try re-syncing if you dont get any errors then it means it is erroring because of one of your syncing items. if it is still erroring then there is another problem..

I had, what seemed like, similar problems. Mine kept telling me the device was disconnected. The solution I found was to remove ActiveSync using Add/Remove Programs. Then, open your programs folder and trash the ActiveSync Folder. Perform a hard reset on your device. Reboot your PC, reload ActiveSync, re-establish your partnership, and your problem should be fixed. I admit it is quite the pain, but it seemed to eliminate the problem in my case. Also, just to query you guys, it seems I've read that if you leave your iPAQ connected when you shut down or restart, that this problem can re-occur. Does anyone know if there is any correlation between this?

I have a similar problem w/ my rx 3115, when i connect my PPC to the usb cable it connects first and starts to "searching for changes" then it stops after about 3 seconds and says "sync error" and after about a second of that screen AS then quickly disconnects me altogether and doesnt even recognize a device being attached. any thoughts???

also, after it says no device the PPC is still able to charge via USB, so I know it is getting power. hopefully this will help
