Async and new Sync/charge cable
1) I just bought a h4355 PPC. All it had was a cradle and charger. I downloaded 3.8 Active Sysnc. The PPC synced up with my desktop - no problem. Then I wanted a USB cable for at work - so I bought this 2 in 1 sync/charge cable for $5. The MS program tries to sync the desktop & PPC but justs keeps cycling. When I try 'get connected' the program says 'Your device was not detected' -and yet the USB is listed as 'USB is available'. Is the cable bad?
2) What is a soft reset and is there a hard reset? How do you do this and why? 3) This may sound dumb - but do I need the Companion CD to load all the system files - like MS outlook for a clean "Default" 'new' system? I feel like just starting over to get rid of the problems - erasing HD and resetting all. Do the system programs permanately reside in the PPC? Thanks for your help and time. 1) - It may be a bad cable, however, on the second PC did you connect the cable and your unit before installing AS? if so disconnect, uninstall AS, reboot the PC, install AS and only connect when it tells you to do so.
2) A soft reset is like a reboot on your PC, a hard reset is like reformatting your hard disk (and having windows automatically reinstalled in a 'as new' condition). A soft reset is performed by depressing a small recessed button on your unit, a hard reset is peformed by doing a soft reset whilst holding down a number of buttons - your manual will tell you the exact ones for your model. 3) If you already have Outlook 2002/XP or later installed then there is no reason to reinstall it. BTW - welcome to the site | |||||

I wrote the supplier and he is going to replace the cable with a new one. I have another problem though - My NiMH back-up battery says it has 0% life. Is it difficult to replace? Should I take it to a watch store? Where can I get one these batteries? Always somethin' - sorry to be a bother. Any help would be appreciated.
