ppc spring cleaning... need advice

to keep it short... my files & programs are all over the place.

need to keep
  • all PIM database
  • user data, email setting
  • global setting, AS relationship etc
need to go
  • all 3rd party programs (i'll reinstall later)
  • dead registry
  • all useless "default" folders & files created by "long-uninstalled" programs

problem... if i restore only database, AS relationship wouldn't be recognise.
if i do a full restore, all programs r back again.

Q. after a hard reset, & restore only the database using the program in the ipaq, how do you activesync using the same relationship again?

thanks

You can't, what you can do is delete the current relationship from AS and then recreate it. It is not really essential as all your programs will still be in the add/remove. In my experience it is better just to sync with no PIM data on at all as AS will mess it up and does crazy things to all your data so I just let AS take the information from my computer onto the PDA.
My "My PDA" now updated with hints and tips including a ROM fix for the RX3700 series and installing Transport Tycoon onto your PDA.

What I do:

I use Outlook, therefore all the PIM data is on my desktop PC already. I hard-reset the iPAQ, delete the partnership, create the new partnership (same name), and then install whatever apps that I deem necessary at the time.
All PIM data is transferred once connected to ActiveSync.

I seldom do a restore...unless I'm on the road, away from my computer.

thanks for the prompt replies.... to get it straight :-
  1. gather & copy all registration numbers
  2. Sync with PC one last time before...
  3. Hard Reset !
  4. go to AS & delete Partnership
  5. place ipaq in cradle
  6. create "new" partnership .. (this is the same name as my previous as i also need to sync with pc in office)*
  7. run CeAppMgr.exe to re-install needed prog
  8. woila !
*the thing is can i still continue to AS with another PC using the "deleted & recreated" partnership name? or will everything be messed up again?

You shouldn't have any problem. When you create the new partnership, you have the opportunity to choose what you want synched. Probably, you want contacts, appointments, and tasks (at least to start), with everything else turned off.
