When I connect my Ipaq to it's cradle Active Sync tells me its synchsonising hundreds of messages - the last time it was 747 and that it will take 30 mins or the like.

I haven't got 700+ messages in my inbox and it's set to only sync the last 5 days.

It then crashes and I can't stop it, it disappears out of the programmes list but it's still running on the computer. The only way out is to restart the PC!

Anyone got any ideas?

I would be tempted to uninstall A/S & then re-install it again, & then try to sync.

I have the same problem, I deleted the partnership and reconnected, the problem was fixed for a short time but then came back a few days later. Maybe reinstalling A/S may help, I will try it. Taking the inbox out of the synch window will allow you to continue to synch the rest of the ipaq

Thanks for that - I will try re-installing A/S (again!) and see if it sorts it out
