AS 4.1 and no USB connection

I'm using an IPAQ 3955 and cannot connect it to my computer using the USB port any longer. I previously was using AS 3.8, which worked for a while, but stopped working for some unknown reason. Specifically, when I tried connecting my PDA using a cradle, either nothing would happen or I got a message saying that the "Device is not recognized" and/or there was a problem installing the new device.

I tried every possible solution I've come across from reviewing the various posts on this site and Microsoft's website. Nothing has helped. I tried upgrading to AS 4.1 two days ago and it DID work, once. Since then, I'm back to square one, either nothing happens or I get the device is not recognized message.

I've tried buyinga new USB cable and modifying my Firewall settings as recommended by Microsoft, but still no luck. The one option that I have not tried is a hard restart because I don't want to lose what's in the memory.

Any help would be appreciate. Thanks.

Ted

I have the same problem with 2 host computers even after going back to AS 3.8. I was also thinking of getting a new 4700 usb/charger base but see that did not work for you.Have you found a solution?

UNFORTUNATELY, I HAVEN'T FOUND A SOLUTION. I'VE TRIED RE-INSTALLING 4.1, BUT NO LUCK. I DID NOTICE SOMETHING STRANGE THOUGH, WHEN AS 4.1 WAS WORKING (BRIEFLY), IT IMMEDIATELY CUT OUT WHEN I TURNED ON MY CABLE MODEM. AT THIS POINT, MY BEST GUESS IS THAT THERE IS SOME CONFLICT WITH MY FIREWALL SETTINGS. I'M USING NORTON'S AND DID SET IT UP AS MICROSOFT INSTRUCTED, BUT STILL NO GOOD. NOW, EVEN IF I DISABLE MY FIREWALL, I STILL CAN'T IT TO WORK.

IF FIND THE MAGIC SOLUTION, I'LL BE SURE TO POST IT. LET US KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANY LUCK.

It seems like we all have the same problem I too am having problems with As 4.1 cant find device not installed etc, was working fine with 3.8. Have tried re-installing both versions and no luck. The only difference I have is that IM using a sync/charge cable rather than the cradle neither work anyway. So hanging out for the solution or suggestions...

Thanks in advance

AT LAST IT WORKS! (Most of the time . . .) Here is what I did:

1. Remove AS 3.8, including the the AS folder.
2. Restarted the PC
3. After downloading AS 4.1, installed it (make sure the IPAQ is not connected at the time)
4. Restarted the PC
5. BACKUP ANY IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON THE IPAQ
6. Do a Hard Reset - setup the IPAQ
7. Connect the data cable (I purchased a new cable, rather than using my existing cradle) to the PC via the USB port (directly - no hub).
8. Turn on the IPAQ, if not already on, and connect it to the data cable.

[At this point, I was still not getting my PC to recognize the IPAQ or even acknowledging that it was attached.]

9. While still connected to the PC and turned on, do a Soft Reset
10. When I disconnected the IPAQ and then reconnected, my PC recognized it and I was able to get AS to work.

I don't know why the above steps worked, but AS has now been working pretty consistently. AS still has a tendency to lose the USB connection, but will usually come right back if I reattach the IPAQ.

Hope this helps anyone else.
