Sync strategy between PC,Laptop & 4700
Hello,
I'm new to the 4700. I use outlook for email and have that installed on my laptop and work PC. Is it possible to have all 3 devices sync'd so that regardless of which I use my email/contacts, etc. would be up to date? Is there software or a strategy I can use to accomplish this? thanks, brill

You can sync everything on all three devices except email. You can only sync email with one PC using ActiveSync. There might be third party sync apps that let you get around that, but I can't think of one.

As far as email goes, you can overcome the point that harley made by setting up a POP3 account on your PDA. With the POP3 account, you retrieve and send messages via a WIFI, GPRS, or internet passthrough connection and does not get synchronized through ActiveSync. The email remains on the email server, so when you log on at home or at work, the email will still download to your PC. The only downside of setting up a POP3 account is that sent messages stay on the PDA and do not get synched to your computer(s).

Thank you both for your help & advice.
![]() Is there an equivalent application like Outlook for the Ipaq to setup the pop3 account or is that done through something else. Is there a recommended email client for the IPAQ I guess is my question. Also I read about some software called easy2sync but I don't think it applies to PPC only laptops/desktops. many thanks, brill

The IPAQ comes with a scaled down version of Outlook already loaded. This version includes Contacts, Appointments, Tasks, Messaging, and Notes. The Messaging module of the IPAQ programs is where you setup your POP3 (or IMAP4) email accounts. You will set up your email account(s) using the same kind of information you used to set up your desktop email account and this information is generally provided by your company or by your ISP.
All synching of information is done via ActiveSync, which is designed to synch information directly into your Pocket Outlook modules as well as files to your "My Documents" folder. There is third-party software you can purchase to supplement ActiveSync, but they generally run in conjunction with ActiveSync. For instance, I use Mighty Synch to synch files directly to the storage cards I have installed in my PDA. Mighty Synch cannot run by itself, but runs every time I run ActiveSync.
