How/can sync Notes files as files on the PC?

This is an oddity pertaining to the built-in PPC application Notes and ActiveSync.

I'm newly using AS 4.1; and can sync just fine. However I notice an oddity...which I don't believe is specific to 4.1 but I just noticed this.

I had thought that sync'ing Files, would also sync all files in the PPC 'My Documents' folder to the PC and allow PC viewing of such files. The PPC Notes files seem to be the exception. It appears Notes files only sync with the PC Outlook application and stores notes on the PC elsewhere not as individual files on the PC as on the PPC. There are no *.pwi files on my PC as on my PPC.

Is there an option / hack to really get the notes files exposed as files in the PC?

Hi slashlos. You see your Notes on the PC from within Outlook on the PC. I don't think they are viewable as independent files on the PC. EDIT: Sorry, I see you already knew that. But I don't think they are stored intedependently on the PC as they are on the PPC.

It looks like you can use the export function in Outlook to export the notes data into files on the PC, but I don't know that you can export individual notes or whether that would be useful at all to you.

you can export a single note as a Rich text Format file. That would be viewable in Word or Openoffice I imagine.

Oh, well thanks; I'm was trying a 'poor man's' backup strategy to duplicate the host aka PC folder but noticing the missing notes files, realized it wasn't compelte. I guess I'll just replicate the PPC based backup file(s) created on the PPC, onto my PC. In this way I can truly restore a PPC outside of AS and/or partnerships.

Notes that I create on my iPAQ sync just fine to my PC. I have File syncing on and Note syncing off. I just confirmed that worked (in ActiveSync 3.7.1, at least) by creating a note on my iPAQ, syncing it with my laptop and checking if the pwi file appeared in my synchronized documents folder. It did. I edited the file on the laptop, saved the note and the changes appeared on my iPAQ.

Do you have the Notes sync option in ActiveSync turned on? If so, turn it off and try again.

Presto, the files are there. I'm a little uneady though, not having them sync. While this does make the files appear, I think I'll go back to letting AS sync Notes albeit w/out individual files. Thanks
