Without your PPC being connected to the PC, open Windows Task Manager & stop the 'WCESMgr.exe' & 'wcescomm.exe' processes, wait a few seconds, then connect your PPC. If A/S doesn't automatically start (it shouldn't) then click on Start/All Programs/Microsoft Activsync. I sometimes have to do this, so hopefully this will cure your problem. You might also want to look in the Activsync forum to see if anyone else has posted a different fix for this problem.

Try running SCANPST on your Outlook database, you'll need to find the utility program first and then locate where your Outlook.PST file is. You can search for these items - on my PC:
SCANPST.exe is in the \Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033 subdirectory and Outlook.pst file is in C:\Documents and Settings\Julie\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook\Outlook.pst If you search for these files, be sure you use the advanced search features and select the options to search hidden files and system files. When you locate your Outlook.PST file, write down the full path to this file. Then close Outlook Select SCANPST.exe This will bring up a dialogue box Input the entire path and pst file name in the dialogue box. Press the Start button You may need to run SCANPST a few times to allow the utility to work through all the issues in your PST file. Julie

It might be interesting to review some of your ActiveSync logs. You can find them in the c:\documents and settings\{your name}\local settings\temp:
WCESCOMM.LOG - captures information about the communications between AS and the PC. This log will show any connection problems. Outsource.log - captures information about the AS session. wcesmgr.log - captures information about Outlook specific issues during AS synchronization. I would be happy to review them if you will zip them up and post the zip file here. Julie

Julie Thank you for all your help. What I have done so far is reinstalled outlook, still no good, deleted everything from the CF and SD cards. when delelteing the SD card files I found folder for weatherbar that I coudnt delete. said write protected or no enough memory, so I went looking in there, there is a folder called Data. inside that folder is a folder called Data inside that folder is a folder called Data this goes on 37 times. I remove the SD card installed a different 1 that was empty and guess what it all works great.
Have you ever heard of that? could that Data folder be some sort of self replicating virus that wouldnt let a/s work? Again thank you for your help Tommy

I would doubt very much that it's a virus, or that it's designed to stop A/S from working, otherwise others would have reported the problem - it's more likely to be a program that was misbehaving for some reason.

I agree with Sugar Cube. It is highly unlikely that it is a virus but much more likely that an application caused this to happen on your Storage Card. (Viruses are really unheard of on Pocket PCs and I have not heard of any confirmed incidences of a Pocket PC getting a virus).
I have heard of this sort of thing happening in IPAQ FileStore. I think it is strange that this would cause synching problems since ActiveSync doesn't sync to SD cards, but who really knows? The good news is that you are able to sync. And hopefully you won't encounter the problem again, but I would be very suspicious of the weatherbar application. You will probably need to reformat the SD card to get rid of the folders you found. Julie

I am attempting to cure similar problems on one of our XP- Outlook PCs.
Somehow, OL can't get totally connected and AS stops. What I have had to do is 1) Change OL profile security back to Basic NTLM, (somehow it switched to Kerberos) 2) temporarily turn off OL profile cache-stop OL-Start Ol, 3) delete AS partnership 4) create new partnership 5) re sync PDA.
