Connection Error Mystery

I've got a mystery for the Activesync experts here.

I think I've got AS 4.1 working OK with my computer at home and at the office. But I have to run through the following every time I turn my home computer on before AS will connect with my hx2795 via USB.

Whenever I start my computer I get the following sequence of screens:

1) "Connection Error-MS Activesync cannot open the com port. To try setting up communication again click OK & follow on-screen instructions."

Clicking either OK or the X-box in the upper right brings up

2) "Get Connected" with several steps listed.

Clicking cancel or the X-box brings up

3) "The serial/IR port cannot be opened. To avoid seeing this error message again, disconnect the serial/IR port."

Clicking either OK or the X-box closes this screen. Then AS will start up and connect to my hx2795 and sync. As long as I don't shut the computer down, I can disconnect and reconnect the hx2795 as many times as I want and and not get the connection error screen again.

Since both home and work computers are running the same system (XP Pro) and AS 4.1, and syncing with the same pda, I would think I could dispense with the connection drill on the home computer. But I can't figure out where it comes from or why it runs.

I'd appreciate any thoughts anybody's got on this.

Andy

I would guess that A/S is trying to connect through a COM port that doesn't exist.

On your PC at home, open up A/S, and click on File/Connection Settings...

Check what you have set for your COM Port & see if "Status" says: COM Port is available.

My guess is that you will have to another COM Port as the one chosen isn't working.
