Activesync wont sync with new PDA

I've got a really annoying problem with my new PDA (Fujitsu Pocket Loox) in that it wont sync. We've recently changed servers at work and i have a feeling its looking for the wront Outlook PST file (no exchange server, everything is local to my machine). Any ideas on how I can change the file its looking for? I've tried deleting relationships, etc numerous time but to no avail.

When it attempts to sync I get: Windows PC: Attention required, and clicking on that tells me that synchronisation could not be completed and that I should try deleting and re-establishing relationships.

ARgghhh, help!

Have you tried deleteing your partnership and re-creating it? You don't lose your files if you say 'NO' to deleting the 'My Docs' file. Then create a new partnership. If you keep the name the same, you shouldn't have any issues.

Yeah, I've tried this. I'm using AS 4.1 if that helps. Files sync ok, its just anything outlook related which makes me think its something to do with our server change; we have new logins which of course means a new user profile on my pc and the Outlook PST file has moved.

You may have to do the following:

Open A/S, & select Options.

Tick the box "Enable sync with a server" & click on the Configuration button.

Click on on the Connection button, & fill in the Exchange Server details.

As stated in my first post, we no longer use an exchange server, all my mail/tasks/calendar, etc is local to my machine. The version of AS I have doesn't have that option, under the tools menu there is a 'add server source' option within which you can define an exchange server. There's no server address, but, wierdly, its picked up my user name from our old exchange server. There is a delete server button, but this is greyed out.

Very confusing. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling AS but to no avail.

Sorry, I hadn't thought about what I'd written in my reply (I can't do multitasking, so I've stopped my other work & am concentrating solely on this now )

What I meant to say was: Go to the screen/s I mentioned & ensure that you're NOT still looking for a server for your sync'ing (sorry - I copied from my notes & forgot to change them to suit your circumstances ), but from what you say in your last post you've done this already.

Picking up on what you've said in your last post, it would seem that your old details are being held on your PC when you uninstall A/S, & then A/S is picking them up when you re-install it.

I would uninstall A/S again, then do a sweep of your PC, deleting any & all references to A/S (look for a folder called 'profiles' - it can get left behind); it may be worth scanning your registry for left-behind bits, but only do this if:

1. You know what you're doing.
2. You back up your registryfirst.

No worries, its a difficult problem to explain to be honest. I've tried deleting any remaining AS-related folders after uninstallation but still no luck. The next option is the registry, but i've had a sweep through it and there's a number of references. As always with registry editing, you're never quite sure what you should be deleting.

This is typical of microsoft, they dont make anything easy when it comes to completely removing something. Its so frustrating. I'd agree with you - it appears there are some elements of my previous AS install lurking somewhere... If anyone has had any experience of deleting AS registry entries, please let me know.

Here's a link to a website that documents what needs to be addressed when removing ActiveSync 3.xx manually. Maybe it will help.

http://www.pocketpcfaq.com/wce/activesync3.1remove.htm

Cheers. I actually gave that a go earlier but with no luck. I'll try removing every activesync-related entry from the registry when I get back to work tomorrow...

Uninstalled AS, removed all folders and entries from the registry but its still not working. This is rediculous.

Anyone got any other suggestions?

I think your problem may have something to do with the Outlook profile on your PC. Since you recently changed servers perhaps the Outlook profile on your PC no longer matches? I read a thread from someone recently who had a problem synching and was finally advised by HP to change something on their Outlook profile. I'll look around some and see if I can find the thread and report back.

Cheers, I think you're probably right. I think AS is looking, or trying to look for my old Outlook profile which is now defunct. Let me know what you find.

I haven't found the thread I referred to, but take a look here:

Open up Control Panel on your PC, select Mail. Then select Outlook > Properties and see what it looks like.

Had a look - nothing unusual. It lists the two accounts I have - the Pop3 and hotmail ones. Also, the data files are showing up in my new user account, no reference to the old ones.

hmmmm.......

Within Control Panel/Mail/Properties, how many profiles are there? (Maybe the old one is still hiding in there )

It may be worth deleting all profiles in there & setting up a new one.
