Active Sync and WiFi Router

I have a problem that may have more to do with my router and security software than Active Sync, but I'd appreciate some thoughts about how to resolve this.

My computer will not connect to my wifi router if I've sync'd my hx2795 before trying to connect to the router. If I sync while connected to the router, I loose my wifi connection. Unplugging the pda does not enable me to re-establish the wifi connection. I have to restart the computer to get a wifi connection.

I can connect and disconnect from my router at will if I haven't made Active Sync do anything first. And syncing while not using wifi is no problem.

I'm running AS version 4.1.0 build 4841, Trend PC-cillin IS 2006, & XP Pro. My computer is a Sony laptop with built-in wifi. The router is a Linksys WRT54GS.

Any thoughts appreciated,

Andy

AS far as I'm aware, A/S 4.1 & above doesn't support Wifi any more.

Try an earlier version of A/S.

Sugar cube, I think you misunderstood Andy's issue. If I read it right, Andy's computer loses its WIFI connection when he syncs his 2795. I don't think he is trying to synch the 2795 wirelessly.

I have read threads from other users who have reported similar behaviour with their computers losing their network connection when they synch their WM5.0 PDAs, and I think it has happened to wired connnections too. I have not see a resolution or workaround for it. I think somehow in the way WM5.0 PDAs are seen as networked devices causes a conflict that creates this problem.

Andy, have you upgraded the firmware in your PDA? If so, you could try using the ActiveSync mode switch which switches the connection between the PDA and PC from RNDIS Sync Mode back to USB Serial Sync Mode.

More Active Sync & WiFi

Julie's inference is correct. I'm syncing the PDA with my computer via USB and using the wifi router to connect my computer to my DSL modem.

The problem seems to be that establishing a connection with Active Sync before or while using wifi makes my computer unable to find the router. The only way I've found to get wifi to work again is to restart the computer.

I have not installed the firmware upgrade. I'll try that this weekend and post the results.

Thanks,
