ActiveSync creates new LAN connection

Up to number 7 right now. Running all versions of AS 4.2 through 4.5. I install it finds the PDA (XV6700) I set it up as desktop and sync. Computer shuts down or I charge at work and resync with the desktop it opens an entirely new mobile LAN connection and it times out. If I do the uninstall again and redo it works again. Simplist terms it forgets itself on the desktop after a day or so. Tried all the fixes. I am still able to sync BT on the notebook but the desktop has got me down. Any ideas why? The new LAN connection says it has very limited connectivity and then I get the AS time out message.

It's not ActiveSync that creates a new LAN connection each time you try to connect.

ActiveSync merely requests a network path to the internet everytime you begin your sync (and an installed PPC program requests access to the 'net), so I would question whether or not you have a good and working network connection from your desktop to the internet BEFORE you begin AS.

And how are you connecting you device to the host computer? Does your device use a USB linked cradle to connect to the PC?

I would say yes. At least its what I do. It'll sync fine. Then I go to sync and it times out. PC is connecting fine with the NET. Not even sure why the NET is an issue. Trying to sync my PDA with my Outlook. So PDA --> Outlook on the desktop. To fix I have to delete the phone from activesync. Shut downa nd set everything back up. Again its like it can't see the phone after a bit when its connecte. In fact when I put the USB into the phone it beeps, activesync open and it tries to hook up with the phone. It just spins its wheel for a few seconds and send the can't connect error.

I use the blackjack's usb cable. I made sure that both the blackjack and my activesync on my desktop have the use feature turned on to connect.

I tried uninstalling my vpn software and reloading activesync but I had no success with that... I know that it's not my firewall because I will turn it off and it still won't work.

Those with Smartphones with DATA service will have their network set to "Internet" or "My ISP", whereas ActiveSync won't always work with those two settings. Instead, change it to "Work" and see if AS works. Just remember that if it does work, you'll need to change it back to "Internet" or "My ISP" to get your DATA service working again...

Also, do you have multiple computers that you Syncronize with? Or just one?

If you sync with two or more, then in some cases you must choose the system you are going to sync with. On the PDA/Smartphone (in the ActiveSync program), choose options, then select the name of your host PC from the drop-down).

Success !!!

First, thanks Elrendhel for your input and you help. My resolution is the following:

I had two VPN software installed on my computer. When I removed both of them, activesync worked for me.

Hence, if you are having problems connecting with activesync and you've already tried the following:
- disenable the firewall
- tried different usb ports
- enabled firewall with adding of ports and adding exceptions to the activesync executables (refer to microsoft activesync website to find out which ones)

Then the solution is to remove your vpn, reinstall activesync and it should work.

Thanks all,
Dae
