Outlook, WM5, Exchange Server & hx4700 Activesync
I know that this has been asked before but I can't find a solution. I posted this in the hx47xx forum but I probably should have posted here first.
My hx4705 decided to make like a brick a couple of days ago. Now that I've got it up and running after a ROM reinstall, it was time to re-establish the partnership between my work PC and the ipaq. The ipaq is fresh and clean with no partnerships. I wasn't too concerned. I'm syncing with my work PC with Outlook 2003 on it and running Exchange Server. I must admit that I don't know a lot about Exchange Servers. So I delete the original partnership in Activesync on the PC, remove Activesync 4.2 using Add/Remove Programs, while I'm at it and update to 4.5. Seemed like a good idea at the time. I reconnect ipaq and begin to establish a partnership. You would think that it'd ask me for the same settings I was using a couple of days ago and things would be fine. Nope. I choose to sync with an exchange server. I enter the details. It warns me that the Server certificate is out of date but I choose to continue rather than retry. Active sync sets up and shows the exchange server and folders (Email, Calendar, Tasks etc), it shows the Windows PC and the file folders (Files, Media, etc) as you'd expect. It even connects, syncs the files and media and stuff and finishes. It leaves me with the 'Attention Needed' warning next to the Exchange Server heading. The warning is that the Exchange Server Security Certificate is out of date. Nothing has been sync'd with Outlook. All my settings are the same as they were before. I got the certificate warning before when I originally set it up but it never caused any subsequent problems. Things always sync'd with these settings just fine! How do I get it to sync with the Exchange Server and load the hx4705 with email, tasks and Calendar from Outlook? Has anyone got some helpful ideas? I've spent about three hours surfing the 'net looking for answers. I've reinstalled and deleted and sync'd my little heart out trying multiple combinations of things. I've repaired and detected. I've checked and mobile computing is activated on the server.... I'm out of ideas. Help! ![]()

I found an old post on another forum that suggested that it was very likely to do with the server security certificate. I know nothing about those so I guess that I've got some reading to do. I'm loath to spend money on I.T. support for something that should be so simple.

Some luck ...kinda
I reinstalled 4.2 with no luck. It still wouldn't work for me.
Then I tried something else. I changed the server settings in Activesync and unticked 'SSL'. It syncs with Exchange now (it gives me the option of syncing Contacts, Calendar, tasks, etc. between Exchange or the PC), at the expense of security and syncing my *files* from the PC. I "don't have permission" to sync or copy files on the PC ie notes, files etc This has gotten me up and going in the respect that my PDA shows and syncs tasks, calendar and mail but at the expense of a lot of other things. I consider this to be a very temporary fix at best.
