ActiveSync - cannot create partnership

Hi all,
I'm a newbie to this forum and desperately looking for your assistance. For many years I have sync'ed my various Pocket PC's using Active Sync (sometimes with smaller frustrations...) - but this time I am completely lost. There is no help to find with Microsoft Trouble Shooting or any other source I've tried so far.
Situation is, that suddenly (cannot explain why) ActiveSync refuses to connect with my x51v...... :(
I have tried everything (I believe) including several soft resettings, removal of ActiveSync 4.5 and reinstallation hereof. Disabling AntiVirus (Symantec - never had a problem here before btw.) and specifically allowing ActiveSync in Windows Firewall (including unchecking the "don't allow exceptions".........
Being used to be updated wherever I am with my Axim - this drives me nuts.....
Hopefully some of you bright people can help me resolving this issue... So that I can get my "life" back in order......
Many thanks,
HBO

You can try removing/ deleting the partnerships that are already set up, in activesync, and on the axim soft reset axim, and restart PC after doing so, then reconnect axim to pc and the new partnership wizard should start.

ActiveSync does work and I used it for years untill I found MNotes. If I was you instead of driving your self nuts I would go to wireless email for lotus notes, mobilise lotus notes for smartphone and pda and download mnotes personal addition. It takes about 3 to 4 minutes to install and set up.

thanks

Thanks Pedah and packers0418,
I have tried removing all partnerships, but the wizard for creating a partnership does just not initialise. My x51v connects to the PC but nothing happens with ActiveSync 4.5.....
This is also the case when trying to set up a partnership on a completely different PC. Must be something on the device - or?
MNotes sounds good - but with me using MS Outlook 2003 SP2 it's probably not the right choice?
So main issue still is. Seems that ActiveSync on the PC (on any PC) just don't realise that my Dell Axim get's connected. Anybody seen this before?
Cheers,
HBO

So you say that you get the USB connection sound?

I was going to suggest that it might be a broken connector on the x51. I have this problem on my IPAQ 5450.

Have you tried connecting via IR ?

Hi Laura,
Yes - I can connect to the PC via IR - and send files to my PDA. But ActiveSync is still not initialising and am still not allowed to create a partnership (not even manually).
.....???
Error message from ActiveSync is:
"ActiveSync cannot connect to the Windows Mobile powered device. To troubleshoot the problem, click OK".
Troubleshooter doesn't solve anything - and the log file just claims that pinging the device echoed successfully....!

Can't uninstall on PDA only delete partnerships. On the PC uninstall everything. But It's still problematic.

Even now after (again) uninstalling and reinstalling ActiveSync on the PC there is no folder PC documents and settings/ my user name/ application data[hidden file]/ microsoft/ activesync/profiles - that I can delete. The folder simply does not exist!! ....

At this point, i hard reset. I do not reccomend it but that was how I fixed it this time. I have everything in one place, so reinstalation is easy and all my cabs are on my SD card.

I don't know AS has always been the bane if my existance. I can't tell you anything definitive at the moment!except I'm syncing
