Exclamation problem syncing two computers - Outlook2003, XP, WM5

Sigh... here we go with yet another bizarre ActiveStync misbehavior.

I have for years synced my PPC with two computers. I sync Contacts, Calendar and Tasks. I do not sync mail.

Recently my laptop was destroyed. Bought and configured a new one. Deleted the partnership with the destroyed one from my Cingular 8125 running WM5. Added the partnership with the new laptop.

Everything seemed normal until I tried to specify that I wanted to sync Contacts, Calendar and Tasks on the new machine when it popped a dialog box which says "You cannot synchronize contacts because it is already synchronizing with ARB01-Work."

Say what? I've done this for years and its documented as a reasonable thing to do!

I've tried all the delete one partnership, delete the other, delete both, reset the machines, etc tangos. I can still only get it to sync with one partner. Either one but only one at a time.

Uninstalling AS 4.2 & installed AS 4.5. Thought that was going to work because it let me establish a second partnership and select Contacts, Calendar and Tasks to sync without complaining. But then when I looked at the first partnership it had silently removed those three from syncing with that partner! (Has anyone noticed that AS gets stupider with each release?).

And now any and all attempts to establish the syncs on a second partner get the dialog box telling me I can't do this.

Did web searches and found very little on this. Only a couple of people who had the problem and no solutions.

Anybody have any suggestions?

I have the same issue, still unresolved. I used to run a T-Mobile SDA smartphone made by HTC running Activesync 4.5. It was able to sync across my computers just fine. Somebody stole my SDA out of my car, so I had to get a replacement. T-Mobile sent me a HTC Dash, and I run into the error message that the user above has gotten. I went through T-Mobile's tech support, and they said they don't support using Activesync across more than 2 computers, but suggested I try the T-Mobile Wing. The Wing is brand new and runs Windows Mobile 6. Received it in the mail, same error message. I called HTC, they said they were unable to assist me as tech support is handled by T-Mobile. So I went shopping for another Windows Mobile Phone. I bought a Treo 750 that runs Windows Mobile 5 through AT&T. Same error message. I called Palm tech support and they ran me through yet another round of tech support (installing/uninstalling, deleting/adding partnerships). They were unable to fix the issue. This is definitely a Microsoft problem. I've tried this with 3 different computers, same result with all 3. Trying to find a resource at Microsoft now as it's pretty obvious the fault lies with them. A quick internet search shows that other people are having this problem with different devices and phones, but they haven't found a workaround.

Mad

Add me to the ones with this problem. Synced for years between my pocketpc and two pc partners. Worked like a champ.

Then my primary pc died. Replaced it, removed the partnership, installed ActiveSync, added the new partnership and WHAMMO... can't sync tasks or contacts with two partners. Makes the whole PDA thing totally useless for me.

I did everything I know (but primarily on the PC side), including completely removing and reinstalling both ActiveSync AND Outlook. Nothing has worked.

Been looking on the net for months and still haven't found any solution. Lots of reports of the problem but no solutions.

Has anybody ever gotten a handle on this?

I saw one post that it might be related to syncing with an Exchange server. I might buy this because this pocketpc was once upon a time configured to sync directly with Exchange (though it never really seemed to work). It is no longer configured to sync with Exchange but it still tries to and throws dialog boxes that it can't connect. Sigh.

I haven't ever looked at removing and reinstalling the ActiveSync components on the pocketpc. Is this possible? If so, how do I go about it?
