Here is an alpha version (Requires CF 2.0 and its for WM5 smartphone only) of one of the components of WiHappy which is called WiFiSync - since it is the part which will automatically ActiveSync over WiFi. Basically it lets you sync your email by WiFi at a set time period so you can receive notifications about new emails just like you would with SMS, or GPRS.
Does this really work? Anybody try it yet?
I am unable to give it a spin right now, because I'm running Vista.

The description of the program says "with your Exchange server," which has always been possible. As far as I can tell, this program just automatically makes a wireless connection, if possible, and does the sync for you on a set schedule.

You do use ActiveSync for syncing with an Exchange server.
Anyway, I checked it out because I was really hopeful that you'd found a solution to the WiFi sync issue so I was disappointed to see the reference to the Exchange server.

I believe it might be possible with an older version of active sync.
Nope. WM5 will not sync with anything earlier than ActiveSync 4.0. The OP in the other thread must have been using an older device since he was currently using AS3.5.

Earlier versions of ActiveSync (AS 3.8 and lower), allow for WIFI synching, but ActiveSync 4.x does not allow any pocket pc to sync via WIFI connection.
Unfortunately ALL WM5.0 (and WM6.0) devices can only use ActiveSync 4.x, so it's a moot point for those devices. However, windows mobile 2003 devices can sync to ActiveSync 3.8 and below, so WIFI syncing is still available to those devices as long as this older version of ActiveSync is used.

Your best option for wireless is BLUETOOTH SYNC on a WM5 device with AS 4.x. AS 3.8 is no longer available on MSFT's site and Julie is right---WM5 and AS 4.x will not allow wifi sync (Security issues, etc.)
Yeah, I miss WIFI syncing too. I held out for as long as i could, but when I bought a WM5.0 device, I had no choice but to shift over to AS 4.
Bluetooth syncing works pretty well, although not quite as convenient and takes more steps to use it. And of course, if you've got IR on your computer, that still works too.
