ActiveSync Why has it taken so long for this category?

Suddenly, AS Can't Connect

I last sync'd my x51v to my laptop on the 4th of November. Since then, I think I've dropped the Axim (causing the battery to pop out, but when I put it back in, all was fine, nothing was gone) and I've installed VPN software on my laptop. I've been trying all night to sync my Axim, to no avail. I get the sound that something is connected to my PC via USB, but I don't get the characteristic ActiveSync sound that it recognizes what it is. I've done the troubleshooting thing, it thinks it's my firewall (which hasn't changed in over a year, I checked, all the permissions are still there, etc), and has nothing else to suggest other than re-installing AS 4.5 (which I did, and it did nothing).

I'm using:
Dell Laptop XP Pro
AS 4.5
x51v

VPN software installed but not activated/not connected to VPN right now. Everything worked fine 10 days ago, anybody have any ideas? I really don't want to have to hard reset my Axim, but I'm afraid that's where things may be headed.... :(

I suppose you've deleted and recreated your AS partnership?

Take a look at this link. The method described worked for me on my WM5.0 IPAQ and I did not have to hard reset:

Yeah, that didn't work (deleting and re-activating the partnership). I can't get it to recognize what's there...the USB connection sound comes up, but TomTom desktop doesn't start (like it normally does when things work well), and AS can't find an Axim to connect to. Grr. :(

(trying to rule things out here)
Have you tried to sync to another computer?
Have you tried to sync via Bluetooth connection?
You could do a full backup of the pocket pc, perform a factory reset, then see if you can sync. If not, restore from the backup and you're no worse off.
