Vista Sync - WMDC

Hi,

I am having troubles with setting up a partnership with my X51v on a new HP laptop running Vista Home Premium.

I have been using the post by Jack Cook as a guide as described in:
Windows Mobile Device Center - Setup Partnership Windows Mobile 5.0 Pocket PC

I get as far as the AutoPlay to select the same options as shown is URL but I don't know which AutoPlay I need to select to get to the WMDC setup screen to setup the device. It does not make sense to select "sync to Windows Media Player"

Also, I did not notice whether vista found the X51v driver in the previous step when I plugged in the Axim.

I am running a clean Vista laptop build with Outlook2003 (nothing is populated).

Can someone provide some assitance?

Thanks

Have you installed Mobile Device Center? It doesn't come with Vista.

Will a mod move this to the ActiveSync forum

I'm not sure about ramimus' comment, but my Vista Home Premium came with the WMDC installed. I am having some issues getting my x50v to sync. I did find out it should sync with Outlook 2003 and 2007 but nothing below 03 (for 02 there is a hack to make it work but does not make it work perfectly). I know for the WM 03 you should not uncheck the contacts, mail, or calendar as you can't check those once undone. Do not run it through the Auto Play popup. Open WMDC and see if it is detecting the device. I have gotten to the point where WMDC shows a good sync but not allowing the x50v to sync with Outlook. I just installed Outlook 2007 and hope to have it running by the end of the weekend. You might want to try and delete the partnership and re-establish it and see what happens.

A few things to add:
  • I found that there was a newer USB driver for the X51V that Windows Update found when asked
  • There is probably a newer version of WMDC than what came on your Vista PC
  • It is usually best to install WMDC when the PDA is cradled

Aximsiteactivesyncicon Sync Vista and Axim X30

I just read thru postings after trying to sync my X30 with Vista Home Premium. I did download the WMDC version 6.0.6783 which is revised 1/31/07 or was it 08. Anyways, SUCCESS!!!!! My computer installed this and installed the driver for my Axim X30 and did a sync with my calendar and contacts with no apparent problem. I thought I'd have to get another PDA so I am thrilled. Wanted to share this success with others. Go to Microsoft.com and there it is. Good luck to all!!!
