Okay, I figured out how to prevent active sync from harassing me, but now I have another problem. I'm trying to install garmin software to my device. The problem arises when I connect my Fuze to my computer (running Vista Premium). I installed the software that came with it, and whenever the Mobility Center is up, it says that a device is not connected. The Garmin software also says there is no device connected. Now I unchecked the advanced networking button that seems to be the problem for most people, but I can't get my computer to recognize the device. It says installing device driver software each time I plug it in. Once it said PocketPC, but it never shows up that a device is connected. I'm using the USB wire to connect it and tried multiple ports. I would prefer to get it going though withtout any 3rd party software. Thanks

I don't know if this would work for you or not, but occasionally I will see that on my Vista boxes, and I'd do the following:
1. Disconnect the mobile device and soft reset it (or else turn it completely off then back on) and leave it unplugged from the PC 2. Restart the PC 3. Log into Vista, and when the desktop has loaded most everything, connect the mobile device and allow it to be redetected and set up via Vista's Sync Center aka (Windows Mobile Device Center) On very rare occasions I'd go into Vista's device manager (called Computer Management) and with the mobile device plugged in, look for "Portable Devices". I'd then right-click on the mobile device listed and select "Uninstall", and when that completed, do steps 1-3 above. This might be overkill, but sometimes did the trick for me. I can't guarantee it will fix your problem, but I've been able to connect 4 different mobile devices to a couple different Vista PCs without too much trouble. I've also not had to ever disable "advanced networking" for any of my WinMo devices, for whatever that's worth.

Your previous post was asking to disable Activesync on your PPC, now you are trying to connect to activesync and are having problems.
Are you sure that AS is running on the PPC before you are connecting it to the PC? Do you have WMDC installed on Vista? look in the Activesync forum for directions. PET PEEVE is back in force... this isn't the AS forum or the FUZE forum. (Good thing I'm not a Mod or I'd be moving posts to the correct forums all day)

Sorry for posting in the wrong spot. I thought it was a general WinMo question.
Okay, the initial problem with active sync was that it kept on opening in the background when I had never connected to the computer. So occasionally it kept opening up when the phone was in use and hogging up all my resources. The problem was fixed by disabling auto update for the phone's clock. Activesync still works and is untouched. I installed my Fuze software, and the mobility center tells me there is no device connected. Again, I am running Vista Premium. Does that make more sense? I just want Vista to recognize that the Fuze is connected so I can finish installing my GPS software. Thank you ![]()

People get confused with Vista and think that several other programs are WMDC.
You must install Windows Mobile Device Center to be able to connect. It doesn't come preinstalled on your computer, so unless you have installed it yourself you are probably trying to connect with Sync Center or Mobility Center.

At the risk of getting caught up in this very confusing conservation
How are you connecting your USB cable to your computer? If you are connecting through a hub, especially a NON powered hub, please connect to a primary USB port. If your computer still doesn't see your device, while your device is still plugged in, run window update feature from your Vista computer. If WMDC is not already on your computer, Windows update should find the proper drivers and the most recent version of WMDC for you.

when you connect the Fuze, do you get a popup on it asking if you want to Sync or faster drive access?
on the laptop, go into device manager look for portable devices and remove the ones that might be the fuze ensure that activesync isn't being blocked by the firewall

Perhaps if you had a connection overview it will help you to get where you would like to be. I have found this article very helpful in the past

Ive seen that screen. it flashes for like 10 seconds. i have tried it with active sync and disk drive and neither work. once it only recognized the memory card with the disk drive feature, but to install garmin the computer needs to see that I have a GPS enabled device connected.
