I have windows xp with the latest service pack. I am using outlook 2007. Active sync opens and the arrows spin for a long time and then it tells me it cannot connect. Sometimes I get a usb device failed message also. I have re-installed activesync 4.5 and the usb messages have gone away. My axim was recognized when I connected to the usb and I got the message that it was successfully installed.
I using Outlook 2007 with XP and AS4.5 as well so I can confirm that it works.
Are you using a USB hub? If so, try a direct USB connection. Also try disabling firewalls/antivirus, and deleting any old partnerships, if they exist. You can do that by going to File - Delete Partnership in AS when your device is not connected.
The other thing to try is to add each thing to sync one by one. So under Tools - Options, leave only only check mark at a time and see if it works. Continue with the others.
Installed MS Office 2007 last week and now cant get it to Sync with Active Sync 4.5. Synchronization error problem that says cannot access necessary information. Restart Outlook 200 if enabled. I don't even have Outlook 2000!?!?!?
I have tried all your workarounds to no avail.??

Help and TY for your support.

Was it working before 2007? Can you do a "repair"?
What device are you syncing? On my smartphone, going to Connections - USB to PC and then unchecking Enable advanced network functionality helped resolve some AS problems before.
Hmm... I don't really know what else to suggest. Have you tried installing 4.1 again? If you're good with the registry, cleaning it out of AS traces might be helpful too, but do so at your own risk (i.e., backup first)!
OK I uninstalled AS 4.5. Then installed AS 4.2 Didnt even acknowledge having a connection via Get Connected window of installation (wanted to verify connection was available (assume using USB which shows available - COM1/3 are unavailable and COM2/IR Port are not installed)).
So I installed AS 4.5 over the top and now have same situation. Why isnt it verifying the USB connection vs. a COM port???
Nope...tried to re-build with SP2 and didn't work. So it wanted to automatically upgrade to SP3 afterwords. I also re-installed the Windows Mobile SW and no effect.
I've visited all Microsoft areas of support but nothing helps there either.
Yes and no effect.. the error message I get is as follows:
"Synchronization cannot start because this destop computer cannot accesss the necesary information. Restart this dektop computer and synchronize again. If the problem persistsand this desktop is running Microsoft Outlook 2000, Open Microsof t Outlook 2000, click Help, and then CLick & Detect and Repair."
I am running MS Outlook 2007 w/Active Sync 4.5 and it just doesnt connect.
