Remove Partnerships the Hard Way

I have an old reliable iPAQ H3900 running Pocket PC 2000 which was once partnered to a laptop which is now long gone. I now am trying to connect the iPAQ to my XP desktop. The problem is that I can't remove the old laptop partnership from the iPAQ which is preventing me from sync-ing email. I was able to partnership the XP and am sync-ing the calendar, contacts, etc. The software balks at email and gives an error message that says, I have to go back to the laptop and remove the old partnership first.

The desktop has Active Sync 4.0.

Can anyone make a suggestion, all comments are appreciated. I don't have the laptop and was wondering if their are configuration files on the iPAQ I could delete instead? Thanks.

can you delete the partnership in the menu - options of activesync on your device? just delete the old laptop from that partnership there

Thanks for the fast reply, John. The answer is no, the connection menu only shows the XP desktop, not the laptop.

I should add that the iPAQ in the ActiveSync program area does have a drop down list which shows both the XP and laptop pc's. Their is a check box over the drop down which says:

"Include PC when synchronizing remotely and connect to:"

I have the XP desktop selected in the drop down list. I can't find any way to delete the laptop on the iPAQ menu.

If you try to set up a partnership with another computer, you will be prompted to delete one of your existing partnerships before you can proceed. At that point, you could delete the old laptop partnership. Otherwise, you'll probably need to perform a hard reset to get rid of it.

Unrelated to this issue, you really should be using ActiveSync 4.2. ActiveSync 4.0 is unstable.

Thanks Julie for commenting, but I didn't get the delete a partnership response when I partnered with the XP desktop. Something must be screwy with the iPAQ or Active-Sync on the XP didn't see the laptop config on the iPAQ.

You will only get the delete partnership message when you attempt to partner with more than two computers.

That's why I suggested that you try to create a partnership with another computer.
