Hello,

I have a dell PC XP Home Edition and a new corporate HP laptop with XP Professional. I was syncing my Cingular 8125 (WM5) with both my PC and my old laptop. Since the new laptop has arrived and I installed Activesync 4.5, it does not attempt to create a partnership and goes into GUEST mode only. I have been searching for any hints to this problem and have uninstalled and reinstalled 4.5 several times. I even uninstalled ActiveSync 4.5 and installed 4.2 with the same results.

Furthermore, I did a complete hard reset of the 8125 and still get the same results. Several articles talk about deleting everything and starting over, but each time I get only GUEST mode. The OPTIONS in the Activesync Window are grayed out. On the PC, I sync with no problems, even after I hard reset the 8125. I am totally baffled.

Anyone have any idea what might be the issue? I do have administrator rights on the laptop.

Well, I solved it. No where have I found documentation on this, but buried in the registry was the following key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows CE Services\GuestMode\

I set it to zero and "viola" it now syncs just fine. I checked my PC and this key does not even exist on it. I have NO idea how this key was set in the first place.
